The incumbent will lead a staff of full-time, part-time, and volunteer coaches to develop and execute effective practice and competition plans inclusive of conditioning programs, as well as provide direct feedback to student-athletes on technique and skill development. This position will lead the effort to recruit, develop, and retain talented student-athletes that can be successful in their academic and athletic endeavors.

Lead the development and execution of effective practice and competition plans for track & field and cross country. Provide feedback on technique and skill development while contributing to a positive academic, athletic and social environment for all team members. Provide oversight and lead efforts in recruiting and retaining student-athletes. Manage and oversee administrative duties including but not limited to: NCAA and Drake compliance processes, coordination of team travel, equipment and apparel, scheduling and business paperwork. Manage the scholarship and operating budgets. Communicate effectively and timely with coaching staff, support staff, athletes, administration and other relevant parties regarding the program

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; Four years of progressively responsible experience as a track and field coach at the collegiate level; Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain high quality student-athletes from diverse backgrounds; Effective communication skills and ability to interact with a wide variety of people.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree; Eight years of progressively responsible experience as a cross country/track and field coach with at least four years at the NCAA Division I level; Background in cross country and distance coaching; Head coaching experience; Experience recruiting domestically and internationally.
