Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance, the Director of Compliance is responsible for monitoring and establishing eligibility of student-athletes; organizing and maintaining recruiting records; educating, interpreting, and overseeing compliance of NCAA and Big South Conference rules.
Work Performed: Responsible for monitoring bylaws 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 and for developing compliance education and presenting to various departments. Provide accurate interpretation of NCAA rules to coaches and relevant staff on a timely basis, and investigate and report NCAA violations, when needed. Analyze NCAA and Big South Conference rules and regulations governing member institutions as well as University institutional policies, develop specific procedures, and guide the implementation of these to ensure University compliance. Evaluate and audit internally and in conjunction with the Big South Conference, CSU Athletics compliance responsibilities and systems. Develop and supervise systems/forms to monitor and document institutional compliance. Maintain and manage ARMS Compliance Software. Research and develop a current compliance policies and procedures manual. Direct and oversee ongoing programs and activities of the compliance office and subordinate functional units through proper management, planning, controlling, coordinating, negotiating, counseling, advising others, and resolving problems. Investigate potential Big South Conference and NCAA violations by communicating with upper-level management, Faculty Athletics Representative, University General Counsel and any external counsel assigned by the university. Ensure all assigned tasks for compliance are complete and accurate with University, Big South Conference, and NCAA rules. Train and provide continuing compliance education to staff and coaches on compliance office policies and procedures. Will supervise part-time employees, interns and work studies. May be required to work evenings and/or weekends. Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Thorough knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Ability to interact with individuals of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds; to work collaboratively and effectively with other staff; student-athletes; coaches; administrators and be able to work in time sensitive and occasional pressured environments. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential information with discretion and according to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines. Possess analytical and problem-solving abilities with academic staff and student-athletes; outstanding communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to organize tasks and set priorities. Must have total commitment to the adherence to NCAA, Big South Conference, and Institutional regulations. Ability to operate basic office equipment, use Windows based PC using Microsoft Office. Previous experience in an athletics compliance office (college, conference, or NCAA).
