The Head Coach of Track & Field and Cross Country manages all aspects of the NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field and Outdoor Track & Field program, including recruiting, coaching, planning practices and competition, scheduling, managing program budgets, etc. Responsibilities and Duties
Responsibilities for the Head Coach of Track & Field and Cross Country include, but are not limited to the following:
Organizes, conducts, and supervises all aspects of the intercollegiate women's cross country and track & field programs to include: skill instruction, practices, student-athlete strength & conditioning, competition scheduling, competition preparation and competition day coaching, and participation within designated conference and NCAA meetings Organizes, strategizes, and supervises all aspects of recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes Provides appropriate leadership, direction, and supervision relevant to the academic progress of student-athletes within the women's cross country and track & field programs Adheres to all university, conference. and NCAA rules and requirements relevant to the overall conduct of the intercollegiate women's cross country and track & field programs Provides appropriate leadership to ensure a quality student-athlete experience that develops the Total Tiger through campus and community involvement, as well as competition in their sport and academic achievement; collaborates with Sports Medicine as well as Speed, Strength & Conditioning staff to ensure health and safety, as well as athletic development of student-athletes; provides direction and appropriate follow-up to discipline/conduct for the program's student-athletes Prepares designated information relevant to budgets, equipment needs, travel advances/reconciliations, prospective student-athlete recruitment records and other program areas; works with Development staff to establish relationships with alumni and other friends of the program and to identify potential donors to the program Oversees and assigns responsibilities to assistant coach(es); supervises all aspects of their work performances and conducts performance evaluations; actively recruits and supervises volunteer coaches to work with various events not assigned to assistant coaches Represents the Department of Athletics and the women's cross country and track & field programs at specified university, department, media, and community functions and events
The work hours for this position include nights and weekends, as required by practice, competition, and recruiting. Travel is required. Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree Three years of successful collegiate or USA track & field coaching experience Proven ability to train and recruit at the Division I collegiate level Ability to accept and carry out assigned program and responsibilities Ability to communicate effectively and work well with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community Ability to pass the NCAA recruiting test and have a thorough understanding of NCAA rules and regulations. A demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically Ability to work collaboratively within the structure and framework of an athletics department and university Ability to confidently and competently lead a training session for women
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree USA Track & Field Level or NCACE certifications
