This position reports to the Sports Information Director and works in support of the goals and operations of the Department of Athletics. This position supervises student interns and part-time/student staff as assigned. The Assistant Director serves as an Athletics liaison to Alumni Relations, Integrated Marketing and Communication, Carol Crazies and the Executive Committee of the Blue Gold Club. This position works closely with Spirit Squad Coordinator /Cheer Coach and Pep Band Director to elevate the game day experience. Other duties pertaining to the operational needs of the department assigned as needed (i.e., post season arrangements).
Serve as a liaison between Athletic Department and Integrated Marketing and Communications and collaborate with Integrated Marketing and Communications on key initiatives, including but not limited to, greater interface with www.jcu.edu website pages.
Work with Sports Information Director to provide marketing content and support for www.jcusports.com, PA announcements, and game day scripts Cultivate a robust corporate sponsorship program, identifying opportunities, evolve partnerships, and secure advertising / sponsorships through identified athletic assets to drive ancillary revenue opportunities.
Create a comprehensive game day atmosphere inclusive of promotions and entertainment to drive attendance and fan / student interaction and engagement. Develop and enhance visibility of key strategic dates for both student and alumni based events and communicate with www.jcusports.com and www.jcu.edu coordinators and provide content for regular updates to external digital board, PA announcements, Inside JCU, departmental updates, etc.
Collaborate with all varsity head coaches and staff to ensure accurate and timely marketing for key events, camps, clinics and promotions. Manage marketing income in support of engagement for student athletes and teams. Assist Athletic Director in the tracking of fundraising and oversight of online team shop, and royalty income.
Serve as Athletic Department liaison to Enrollment for recruiting and admissions events (Blue Streaks Preview Day, Open Houses, Celebration and other hospitality events. In conjunction with Advancement and Alumni Relations assume lead planning role with duties related to the Hall of Fame induction, Homecoming weekend, and Blue Gold Club events.
Coordinate game day events with the Spirit Squad Coordinator and Pep Band. Support efforts and planning for events related to out of town competitions and engage appropriate resources including Alumni Relations, IMC and student athlete parents and fans.
Assist with the oversight of ticket and staff personnel for game days and other athletic based special events. Produce financial reports as appropriate. Coordinate Athletic Department recognition events including the Academic recognition programs during DIII Week, JCU Team Service Awards, DIII Week activities with the Student Athletics Advisory Council (SAAC) and support coaches with Team recognition events as needed.
Support the efforts SAAC and Carroll Crazies and communicate with leadership about mutual goal setting and projects. Work with Athletics Director, Advancement Major Gift Officer for Athletics and Executive Director of Alumni Relations to support Blue-Gold Club membership drive and provide leadership for Blue-Gold events (annual fund-raiser, senior student athlete event, sport specific alumni activities, etc.)
Actively participate as a member of the Blue-Gold Executive Board with specific responsibilities to be determined. Enhance the visibility of Blue-Gold Club at strategic home key dates by engaging alumni and members of the Executive Committee as representatives at key events. Work with Alumni Relations and coaches to maintain alumni data for each sport and support coaches outreach and engagement with alumni.
Engage the City of University Heights to promote community engagement with Athletics events. Increase professional networking opportunities, some which feature women who bridge athletic and professional success. Participate in Athletics/University committees (including Homecoming/Family Weekend, Reunion Weekend). Engage in professional development opportunities with Athletic Director approval.
Knowledge and experience with event management (planning, logistics, scheduling), marketing and fundraising.
Strong oral and written communication, organizational skills as well as attention to detail.
Creative thinker with the ability to problem solve in a high paced environment.
Ability to lead, train and supervise game day staff.
Passion for college athletics and mentoring student athletes.
Experience with website, social media, and other software systems that support marketing, events management and fundraising.
