The NCAA is requesting applications from interested individuals to serve as Regional Advisor to the NCAA Softball Umpire Improvement Program (SUP); two positions are available. The regional advisor serves at the direction of the National Coordinator of Softball Umpires to improve the overall quality and consistency of umpiring throughout softball. Additionally, the position will assist the national coordinator and the NCAA Divisions I, II and III Softball Committees in the identification, training, selection and evaluation of umpires for each of the NCAA Softball Championships. The position is a one-year term, renewable each year. The official term will begin as close as possible to January 1, 2022 (in a typical year, the term begins in September). A stipend is paid during the official term.
Reports to: National Coordinator of Softball Umpires and the NCAA Divisions I, II and III Softball Committees.

Expectations of Position:
a. Positively represent the interests of the NCAA and its softball umpire program by fostering a culture of excellence and cooperation among all softball constituencies.
b. Assist the national coordinator of umpires in continuing to improve the national umpiring program, national educational platforms and the regional advisors program.
c. At the direction of the national coordinator of umpires, serve in an advisory role to the NCAA Divisions I, II and III Softball Committees with the selection, assignment and advancement of umpires during the respective Softball Championships, as well as other championship umpiring matters.
d. In conjunction with the national coordinator and other regional advisors, work regularly with Divisions I, II and III conference coordinators of umpires to assure the most consistent and effective teaching and communication is being utilized in educating and developing umpires.
Duties, Requirements and Responsibilities:
a. Provide assistance in planning and execution of regional umpiring clinics for umpires;
b. Attend umpire meetings and clinics as assigned, including regional clinics and the coordinators meeting;
c. Participate in in-season selected conference calls for coordinators or umpires and NCAA Softball Rules Committee, as requested;
d. Serve in an advisory role to the national coordinator and, as requested, the NCAA Softball Committees, in connection with the selection, assignment and advancement of umpires during the Softball Championships, as well as other umpiring matters;
e. Assist the NCAA and national coordinator with management of the NCAA SUP website;
f. Upon request of a conference coordinator, provide additional service to the conference in assisting with the conference’s umpiring program;
g. Shall not be an active NCAA coach or umpire any NCAA postseason softball; and
h. Perform other duties as assigned by the national coordinator, NCAA staff and/or the NCAA Softball Championship Committees.
Preferred Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to relate effectively with umpires and coaches.
Extensive knowledge of NCAA softball rules and their relationship to officiating mechanics and techniques.
Strong administrative and organizational skills.
Ability to use email as a means of correspondence.
Experience in officiating, coaching or assignment of officials at the collegiate level, preferably with some experience in NCAA Division II and/or Division III softball; and
Shall not be an active NCAA coach or postseason umpire.
