In partnership with the head coach, helps develop strategies for developing and maintaining large and / or highly visible intercollegiate sports programs. Responsible for overseeing specific aspects of the sports program, ideally the distance group. May provide guidance to other personnel. Assumes head coach responsibilities as needed.

Job Duties 40% Plans and implements the training season, in conjunction with the head coach, to maximize performance at the end of season meet.
15% Works in conjunction with head coach in athlete recruitment and fundraising activities.
15% Coaches team at meets.
10% Ensures adherence to all governing rules, university, department, conference, NCAA policies and procedures, including student-athlete benefits.
10% Plans travel/meals for away meets.
5% Represents and promotes professional conduct, university good will and high standards at all promotional and media related events including games.
5% Independently conducts practices, conditioning sessions and team meetings.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training with a college-level program.
Advanced interpersonal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with athletic participants, staff and parents of student athletes.
Ability to demonstrate creativity, sound judgment and decision-making; be an effective problem solver.
Ability to verbally communicate in a highly effective manner with a diverse population, and for live media presentations.
Ability to communicate with a diverse audience, in writing, in a highly effective manner.
Advanced knowledge of the sport of swimming and technical coaching principles.
Leadership skills to mentor and develop student-athletes, assistant coaching or program instruction staff and skills in effective assistant coaching.
Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
ASCA Level 2 or higher.
Experience coaching distance swimmers.
2 Years+ coaching collegiate level swimmers.
Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
Possess a valid license to drive in the State of California and be able to participate in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) pull notice program.
Possess CPR/AED/First Aid certification or have the ability to obtain it within 60-calendar days of hire.
Possess NCAA Certified recruiter status or have the ability to obtain it within 60-calendar days of hire, and be able to maintain.
Possess Lifeguard or Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification or have the ability to obtain it within 60-calendar days of hire.
Candidates must have the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
Will be required to complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training within one month of hire.
Will be required to complete Title IX (Sexual Harassment) training every two years.
Will be required to complete the Basic Cash Handling (16 minute video & 10 question quiz) training and pass the quiz with a score of 80% or greater within one month of hire.
Will be required to take the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) online training module.
