The Athletics Sports Information graduate assistant works with the Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations in managing all aspects of the Athletics Media Relations Department.
Examples of work performed:
1.Assist in all publicity efforts of the department; brochures for all sports, press kits, press releases and specialty brochures as needed and social media – specifically for the sports of women’s soccer, softball and men’s and women’s cross country and track and field.
2.Assist in the supervision of game statistical and press coverage as assigned.
3.Assist as a media contact for the athletics department. Interacts on a regular basis with the local electronic and print media as well as LU external staff.
4.Works cooperatively with Western Athletic Conference Communications Office.
5.Perform any additional duties as requested by the Assistant Athletics Director for Media Relations.
Bachelor’s degree required.
1 – 2 years of University Athletic Media Relations experience preferred.
Working knowledge of soccer and softball statistical operations preferred.
Basic computer layout and design knowledge in desktop software required.
Ability to maintain accurate statistical records regarding individual and team records for all sports programs required.
Proven writing ability along with possessing effective interpersonal communication skills required.
Knowledge of NCAA rules required
Able to tolerate flexible work hours - weekends and nights.
Strict adherence to established NCAA, WAC, Lamar University and Texas State University System rules and regulations. A violation of these rules and regulations can lead to disciplinary action including termination.
