North Carolina Wesleyan College is seeking a Head Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Track & Field Coach with the proven ability to manage a successful program.
This position is responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of the Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country and Women’s Track & Field Programs at NC Wesleyan College. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: instructing on practice, race/meet preparation and strategy; assistant coach supervision; recruitment of prospective student-athletes; retention of student-athletes, monitoring the academic progress of the Cross Country / Track and Field student-athletes; preparation and oversight of budget; community outreach; and program-specific and departmental fundraising; and fulfilling other duties as they arise or as they are assigned by the Vice President of Athletics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes at NC Wesleyan College. Head Coach will plan and organize the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Track & Field Programs including training and conditioning programs; organizing practice sessions; developing and retaining academically and athletically talented student-athletes to compete successfully within the conference, regionally and nationally.
Assess talent and actively recruit talented student athletes who are suitable for NCWC academic programs. Travel to evaluate abilities, phone calls, letter writing, and on campus meetings. Meet annual recruiting goals for Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Track & Field.
Pass the NCAA coaches certification test, attend all mandatory NCAA compliance meetings and maintain appropriate forms and documentation to be reviewed upon request.
Maintain competency with respect to knowledge of, compliance with, state and federal laws, University policies/guidelines, USA South Athletic Conference rules/policies, and NCAA rules. Report to the Vice President of Athletics any violation of NCAA, conference, and/or institutional rules.
Determine fiscal requirement and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds. Travel with the team, plan for equipment and supplies including uniforms. Responsible for ensuring that program expenditures do not exceed program budgets.
Develop and maintain strong alumni, parent and booster support for the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Track & Field programs; work with supporters, and the NCWC Development Department to increase annual contributions for the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Women’s Track & Field programs.
Participate in annual continuing education programs regarding NCAA rules as assigned by the Vice President of Athletics.
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s Degree
Experience: 4 years coaching at high school (head coach) and/or two years coaching at collegiate level
Skill/Abilities: Valid driver’s license. Willingness to travel, including overnight and weekends. Ability to work evenings and weekends. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operate a PC and related software
Education/Certification: Master’s Degree
Experience: Three to five years coaching at the collegiate level
