The University of Connecticut is seeking applications for the position of Director of Marketing and Digital Media. This position will work as a member of the Marketing & Fan Engagement unit, overseeing the development, planning and execution of the traditional and digital marketing strategy for all sports and work specifically with select sports that may include football, basketball or hockey.
The Director of Marketing and Digital Media will be a self-motivated individual with a creative and innovative mentality with a passion for brainstorming and ideation. The candidate will have the ability to be a visionary and forward-thinking, progressive in the areas of digital marketing and fan experience, think strategically and creatively, work independently and as part of a team, lead and motivate others, foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration, and possess highly effective communication and organization skills.
The selected candidate will oversee the development and execution of both the digital marketing strategy and traditional marketing strategy broadly for all sports, as well as specifically with select sports. The digital marketing strategy will have an emphasis on social media, digital advertising and email marketing to execute revenue generation, ticket sales, fan acquisition/retention and fan engagement campaigns. The selected individual will independently produce digital content necessary for social media, videoboard and digital marketing collateral. The traditional marketing strategy will include the development and execution of the in-game fan experience as well as the marketing and promotional plans to align with the digital strategy.
The Director of Digital Marketing will work in collaboration with multiple internal departments and constituents including Video Services, Sales and Service, Ticket Operations and Communications.
This position will require flexible and irregular hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
This role will have many responsibilities which include, but not limited to, the following:
•Lead and manage the day-to-day delivery of marketing functions
•Supervise the work of assigned staff, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations
•Develop and execute strategic marketing and promotional plans or assigned sports that may incorporate grassroots, traditional marketing and digital marketing. Approve director reports’ plans for their assigned sports.
•Regularly evaluate and assess marketing and promotional activities for all sports, including gameday elements and run-of-show, music, sponsorship fulfillment, etc.
•Work independently to create content for social media, videoboard and digital marketing collateral
•Coordinate and work closely with department video producers, graphic designers, and communications/social media managers to develop a compelling, creative and strategic social media content plan
•Manage the development and implementation of gameday promotional efforts for all UConn intercollegiate sports
•Review all gameday run-of-show, scripts and coordinating videoboard elements and serve as show director for assigned sports
•Assist in coordinating and executing formal photo and video shoots for the purpose of fulfilling the digital content strategy
•Take photos of the team during photo shoots, practices and games
•Act as the liaison to various campus and student groups such as the marching band, spirit squad and student activities
•Collaborate extensively with Learfield IMG College
•Manage and oversee the department’s digital and social media efforts
•Be actively engaged in department research and data collection activities
•Be actively engaged in department branding activities
Minimum Qualifications: bachelor’s degree in sport administration, marketing or related field; four to five years of sports marketing or digital sports marketing/communications experience; proven experience with digital marketing (i.e. social media oversight or content creation); proficiency in the use of Adobe Creative Suite; proven ability to effectively manage, supervise and lead a staff; experience collaborating with a multi-media marketing partner (such as Learfield IMG College); and demonstrated knowledge of applicable NCAA regulations.
Preferred Qualifications: five years of Division I collegiate athletic marketing experience; experience working specifically with an FBS football or DI basketball program; experience with Pac Mail Cheetah Digital email marketing platform; experience with Click Effects; experience with Falcon; experience with SIDEARM; and experience with WordPress and web design.
Salary: commensurate with experience.
