Utah Athletics seeks an Executive Director of Event and Facility Management who will be the primary event manager for several University of Utah Athletics events. The candidate will also oversee full- and part-time event and facility workers within the Facility and Event unit within the University of Utah Athletics Department.
- Manage full-time event and facility managers, handymen, grounds crew, and part-time event/facility workers. Frequent performance reviews and supervise training as needed. - Manage facilities as assigned. Could include management of sports turf, SportCourt basketball courts, hydro-therapy pools, athletic locker rooms, office spaces, and meeting rooms. Includes preparing for event seasons, small projects, basic facility maintenance, custodial oversight, and scheduling of common spaces. - Manage events as assigned. Includes preparation for game day operations, working with campus partners and stakeholders on executing game day aspects, managing and staffing game positions, working with support staff, special guests, officials, visiting teams, coaches, student-athletes, and administrators present at competition. Expectations are diligent attention to detail, exceptional customer service, performing tasks efficiently and with organization, having contingency plans readily available, empowered and independent enough to make high-pressure decisions with confidence and authority, and go above job description with passion at all opportunities to do so. - Will actively participate in department and sector meetings, creative sessions, innovations, calls-to-action, meet deadlines, execute any deliverables as assigned, and will have an all-around positive attitude. - Manage facility and event operations budgets, manage purchases and expenditures, and monitor finances weekly.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution - 3 years of progressive experience in event management, facility management, sport administration, capital projects, championship coordination, sport operations - Experience managing/supervising employees - Budget management experience - Organization and time-management skills, dedication to the job, eagerness to progress in the field, exemplified resourcefulness and problem solving, soft-skills and customer service qualities, overall positive attitude in the workplace, adaptation, working effectively in high-stress situations, desire for improvement in the workplace, self-sufficiency, quick learner with excellent communication skills - Proficient computer skills, including, but not limited to Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite, Google Suite applications and professionalism in written, verbal, and non-verbal communication. - Able to lift at least 50 lbs. on rare occasions - Able to walk extensive lengths of time or distances (particularly on event days)
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Sports Management, Business Management or equivalent - 5 years or more of progressive experience in event management, facility management, sport administration, capital projects, championship coordination, sport operations, senior-level administrative duties, internal operations - Experience running women’s gymnastics events or basketball events independently and with efficiency - Experience maintaining and managing high-demand facilities, including multiple types of sports competition surfaces, hydro-therapy pools, offices, meeting spaces, complex scheduling requirements, with an elevated standard of aesthetic and cleanliness - Experience with capital or special project coordination - Experience with NCAA Championship facilitation and execution
