Under supervision of the Director of Athletics, responsible for all facets of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track & Field programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for recruiting, which includes all aspects of recruiting: telephone calls, visits to high school competitions, mailings, educating recruits concerning NCAA rules and the Clearinghouse regulations, playing host to recruits and families on campus visits and arranging campus visits.
Responsible for attending monthly staff meetings, compliance meetings and committee meetings, as required.
Responsible for scheduling dates and times, arranging for suitable race courses with adequate marking, arrangement of officials, ordering equipment and awards and coordinating entries and dissemination of information to other competitors.
Responsible for developing cross country and track schedules which fall within budgetary restrictions, satisfying NCAA requirements and meeting team-development goals; must be able to successfully pass NCAA Division II coaching certification test annually; arranging a summer training program for an average of 30-40 runners; monitoring an annual budget that includes travel, equipment, memberships, awards, office equipment, telephone calls, and recruiting; making travel arrangements including lodging, meals, vehicles, registration, race sites and meets, which includes driving, supervising and coaching; preparing daily practices; providing team administration duties, which include paperwork, academic concerns, one-on-one meetings and team meetings; and fund raising that is scheduled and supervised as available.
Performs related duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree and experience in coaching and/or competing in distance running and track and field events. Thorough knowledge of institutional, NCAA and Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rules, policies and regulations required.
