QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interpersonal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with athletic participants. Ability to foster an environment that supports equity, diversity and inclusion.

  • Ability to demonstrate creativity, sound judgment and decision-making;, be an effective problem solver and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Specialized knowledge of the team sport or activity and demonstrated technical expertise in coaching principles. Strong demonstrated knowledge of sound principles and rules governing collegiate sports. Strong demonstrated knowledge of athletic performance across sports.

  • Strong leadership skills to mentor and develop athletes. Advanced and effective inter-personal, motivational and team leadership skills to work effectively with student-athletes, staff and parents of student-athletes. Good interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.

  • Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to use all athletic equipment and computer software programs needed to perform job duties.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with diverse clientele, using a high degree of confidence, initiative, tact, diplomacy, flexibility, patience and discretion in dealing with a diverse population of students, parents, staff, supporters, campus administrators, faculty and the general public.

  • Proven ability to provide statistical analysis and reports in regards to the specified sport. Strong writing skills to prepare clearly understandable correspondence and reports.

  • Ability to utilize video tagging software to analyze critical moments by athletes and communicate those to the coach(es) and team. Coordinate and employ technology solutions to enhance student-athlete wellbeing and performance. Administer, assess, and report performance testing procedures.

  • Bachelor's degree in sports science or related area and/or equivalent experience/training with a college-level program. Current NSCA-CSCS or CSCCa certification Required

  • At least two (2) years cumulative experience working as a strength and conditioning coach for a collegiate, national or international basketball athletes and or program

  • Ability to organize and manage information into coherent, accessible and efficient format. Proven skill in organizing, prioritizing and maintaining diverse workload, establishing and meeting goals and deadlines, and independently following tasks through to completion.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms.

  • Manage and maintain department measurement tools e.g. force plates, GPS, accelerometers, dynamometers, velocity based training (linear position transducers or accelerometers), HRV/HRR and/or other heart rate indices.
