The Athletics Trainer II will be responsible for the following:
Student Athletes Provide athletic training duties during pre-practice/pregame, during practices/competitions and post-game practices/competitions. These duties may include: wrapping and taping of suspected areas of potential injury, overseeing rehabilitation programs, referring and arranging for student-athletes for additional evaluation of medical issues, if needed, providing basic and routine injury treatment procedures. Travel to games to provide medical coverage for student-athletes. Game day services may also be required to support visiting team student-athletes. Develop and administer rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries, including assisting in scheduling and assigning students for therapy; coordinate athletic training programs and assist in program development, including coordinating training room operations; coordinate or assign other staff athletic trainers to cover events, practices or clinic hours; provide direction and training to less experienced staff athletic trainers or student first responders; assist in coordinating drug prevention programs and applicable drug testing requirements for student athletes; maintain insurance records and monitoring and verifying insurance billings; assist in developing and monitoring the program budget. Have a working knowledge of applicable NCAA, OSHA, and HIPAA standards. Supporting and implementing protocols related to any current health related issues to maintain the safe operation of the department and protect the wellbeing of student-athletes. Coverage may include authorized sports camps, ID camps, and tryouts.
Working with Coaches and Administrators Ensure effective communication between coaching staff and 15% university administration. Provide medical and/or clinical impressions and guidelines in order to maintain a safe environment for practice and competition participation for student-athletes.
Documentation Maintain up to date medical documentation for each student athlete
Consulting Physicians Refer student-athletes to local area specialized physicians for additional evaluation when needed. Monitor rehabilitation/injury care for student-athletes who are seeing physicians for injuries incurred during practice or competition.
Inventory Maintain and monitor supplies, ordering of additional supplies and/or equipment, assist in general maintenance of modalities and rehabilitation equipment.
Bachelor's degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or a combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities AND two (2) years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer in a high school or college environment. General knowledge of the principles and practices of athletic training including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment and rehabilitation; full range of therapeutic modalities and their practical use and physiological basis; other therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping, bracing, and massage; effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment; rules, regulations, and guidelines established by the campuses’ governing national collegiate athletic associations (e.g., National Collegiate Athletics Association or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) pertaining to student athletes, their training, sports medicine care, and health and safety; Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards for handling blood borne pathogens;
maintaining medical records, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards;
and following insurance procedures; demonstrate the leadership, organizational, and administrative skills involved in coordinating an athletic training and sports medicine program. Possess and maintain Board of Certification (BOC) certification for Athletic Trainer.
Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to interact effectively with multiple constituents, ability to travel to away athletic contests during the regular season, and post-season, specialized training in associated therapeutic and rehabilitate practices, at least 4 years of experience working as a certified athletic trainer at the collegiate level, and experience working with medical insurance, billing, athletic training related policy review or writing is preferred.
