The Community Engagement Internship position is responsible for the day-to-day community engagement operations for the University of Maryland (UMD) Athletics and will report to the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development. The intern will have the opportunity to interact with Athletic Department staff and student-athletes, campus constituencies and various corporate and community partners.
The Community Engagement Intern will provide program management and coordination concerning community engagement for student-athletes and department initiatives; Act as the primary individual for UMD Athletics community partnerships; Work closely with Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), student groups, campus, community, businesses and non-profit organizations to develop, design, facilitate service-learning opportunities, programs and special events; Manage and assist in defining community engagement (Share the Shell) for Maryland Athletics and executing all programs; and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
The Community Engagement Intern will maintain a database and document stakeholder information and update a platform where student athletes can find and create engagement activities; Track and report on community engagement numbers of student-athletes and department-wide initiatives; benchmark industry best practices, knowledge sharing with subject matter experts; prepare monthly reports, an annual program review; recruiting materials, etc.
The Community Engagement Intern will engage with campus community partners, and coordinate shared DEIJ programming, events, and resource distribution. Provide operational support for Maryland Athletics DEIJ programming, and advise on potential training opportunities and attend meetings of the Maryland Made Team, SAAC, Gossett Student-Athlete Center (GSAC) and Office of Community Engagement (OCE). Communicate effectively with coaches and sport supervisors through Team Liaison roles and cultivate relationships with internal and external constituencies and perform other duties as assigned.
Ensure compliance with laws, policies, rules and regulations governing the University and its employees, as well as the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Big Ten Conference.
Length of Internship: This is a 35-hour per week paid internship with a one-year appointment (August 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022).
