The University of Connecticut is seeking qualified applications for a paid Women’s Ice Hockey/Olympic Sport Equipment Services internship position. The position will serve as the primary Women’s Ice Hockey Equipment Manager and provide support for Baseball, Lacrosse, Men’s and Women’s Soccer. The primary locations for this position will be in the Freitas Ice Forum and Rizza Equipment Rooms. The position will report directly to the respective Assistant Director of Equipment Services for those facilities.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
-Fit and properly maintain all protective equipment for Women’s Ice Hockey
-Skate sharpening and repair for Women’s Ice Hockey
-Practice and game coverage for Women’s Ice Hockey
-Assist in the procurement, receipt and inventory of goods
-Prepare equipment and apparel for training, practices and competition
-Launder and distribute apparel for training, practices and competition
-Other duties as assigned
The position will also follow all necessary NOCSAE (National Operating Committee for the Standards of Athletic Equipment) guidelines related to any reconditioning of equipment; work with the Athletic Training and Sports Medicine staffs related to any special equipment needs that may arise; possess knowledge and understanding of all compliance related to equipment and proper use of trademark and branding set for by the NCAA and affiliated conferences.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; experience in the sport of Hockey; knowledge of applicable NCAA and affiliated conference rules and regulations; excellent interpersonal, organizational, teamwork and collaboration skills; ability to work flexible and irregular hours including nights and weekends, with some travel required.
Preferred Qualifications: NCAA Division I Ice Hockey experience in equipment; ability to sew; ability to sharpen skates; supervisory experience; knowledge working with computerized inventory systems.

This position is a 12-month appointment with a compensation of $32,000. Following administrative review, the position may be renewed for a second term.
