JOB DESCRIPTION Centre College invites qualified applicants for the full-time position of Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach. Reporting to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach, this position assists with various aspects of building a nationally-competitive men’s basketball program, including but not limited to: identifying and recruiting successful student-athletes, skill development during practices and games, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, building a positive and cohesive team culture, scouting, and other duties as assigned. Additional secondary duty to be determined.
This position requires compliance with all NCAA, SAA, and Centre College rules and regulations and to and mindful of the College’s core values of diversity and inclusion.
Poised for success, enhancements to the Centre Basketball program over the past few years include a year-round locker room, access to the department’s full-time strength coach, creation of the David J. Hicks ’91 Practice Center (dedicated December 1, 2018), and a complete upgrade to Alumni Gymnasium. In Summer 2021, the College is breaking ground on the $50 million Initiative for Wellness and Athletic Excellence.
Bachelor’s degree required. Previous experience as a collegiate student-athlete or coach. A commitment to the Division III philosophy; knowledge of NCAA and SAA rules; and a demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and mentor student-athletes and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations are essential. Additional qualifications include communication skills that allow for the ability to teach, motivate, and counsel student-athletes effectively as well as being self-motivated, positive, energetic, eager to teach, and a willingness to travel. Ability to work successfully within a team-oriented athletic department is essential.
