POSITION SUMMARY: Manages all aspects of the men’s outdoor track and field, women’s indoor and outdoor track and field and the men and women’s cross-country programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Provides leadership, organization and supervision for all aspects of the men’s and women’s track and field and cross-country programs. Assists with schedule development for the men’s and women’s track and field and cross-country programs. Evaluates and recruits high school student-athletes. (25%) 2. Supervises student-athletes during practices and games, observing and evaluating performance and demonstrating proper techniques. Monitors the academic performance of student-athletes in conjunction with the academic staff. Evaluates and recruits high-school student-athletes. (25%) 3. NCAA Related: Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations. (15%) 4. Manages the track and field and cross-country programs within the parameters of the approved operating budget. (10%) 5. Supervises, manages and develops the staff that directly reports to the Head Coach. (10%) 6. Assists with Green Wave Club fundraising efforts as necessary. Assists with marketing and promotion activities for the cross-country and track and field programs. Represents the university, cross-country and track and field programs at professional meetings, alumni events, booster club meetings and other events as necessary. (5%) 7. Assists in directing or directs sport camps as requested or required. (5%) 8. Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Associate Athletic Director, Compliance/Assistant Provost. (5%)
Required Education and Experience:
5 years of cross country/track & field coaching experience
High School Diploma/Equivalent
11 years of cross country/track & field coaching experience
Strong organizational, management and leadership skills
Proven ability to multi-task effectively
Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
Ability to input, track and analyze statistical data related to golf performance
Availability to work flexible schedule including nights and weekends
Ability to travel with sports teams for away contests
Thorough knowledge of NCAA and American conference rules and regulations
Previous coaching experience in NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletics
