The graduate assistant will work under the direction of the head and assistant athletic trainers. Primary responsibilities include providing prevention, evaluation, and treatment of athletic injuries and illnesses, including surgical cases; maintaining accurate medical records and documentation using injury tracking software; providing counseling and education to student-athletes; serving as a preceptor for a local CAATE accredited educational program; and assisting with coordination and scheduling of medical coverage for contests and practices.
The graduate assistant will also assist with administrative duties including creating injury reports for coaches, submitting insurance claims, and scheduling doctor appointments; scheduling and administering the pre-participation exams and neurological baseline testing required of all intercollegiate teams; and assisting with the overall operation and the administrations of the athletic training function within the department.
Qualified candidates must have a bachelor's degree in athletic training and be BOC certified by the position start date. The candidate must also be a member in good standing with the Nation Athletic Trainers' Association, and maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED for the Professional Rescuer. The successful candidate must also possess excellent written and oral communication skills in order to interact with a diverse constituency including student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and athletic administration. A minimum of two years of driving experience on a state-issued license is required.
The graduate assistant must successfully enroll as a full-time student in the Graduate Programs in Education (GPE) with the area of specialization in Athletic Program Leadership and Administration. Qualified candidates must have at least an overall 3.0 undergraduate GPA to be considered for admission to the GPE.
Additional Salary Information: This two year position, available beginning August 2021, is approximately 20 hours per week and will require weekend and evening work, as well as some team travel. Compensation for this position will be offered as tuition remission and a stipend. The successful candidate will be subject to a background check and driving record check as a condition of employment.
