Reporting to the Head Baseball Coach, the Assistant Baseball Coach assists with all aspects of the baseball program, which includes recruiting, training, and coaching student-athletes participating in the sport. As a member of the Jewell Community, the Assistant Baseball Coach is fully responsible for compliance with all College policies and procedures in addition to all applicable bylaws of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). At William Jewell College, Intercollegiate Athletics are a meaningful part of a student’s educational experience and valued as a co-curricular activity.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Conduct the sport program in strict accordance with applicable NCAA and GLVC bylaws. •Fully comply with all established College policies and procedures •Promote academic excellence and graduation by monitoring academic progress, study tables, academic meetings, and class attendance. •Design and implement training to develop skills of the individual pitcher as well as the entire the pitching staff. •Manage and coordinate all recruiting activities under the direction of the Head Baseball Coach •Assist the head coach in planning and administering practice sessions and other related training activities •Plan and supervise training for pitchers. •Evaluate talent and recruit prospective student-athletes in coordination with the Office of Admissions. •Drive vans to transport team when appropriate •Submit appropriate reports and forms to administrative staff as requested •Coordinate, plan, promote and conduct all summer tournaments, camps (prospect/youth), clinics, and/or lessons. •Assist the head coach in maintaining the playing field and all surrounding areas. •Participate in community service and fund-raising activities. •Other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Progressive experience as a coach in the sport; and collegiate experience preferred •Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related field is preferred with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in academic programs •Familiarity with appropriate athletic governing organization rules and regulations (NCAA, GLVC) •Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills •An understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges in the environment of private higher education •Have, or be willing to obtain a Missouri Class E driver’s license. •Must be proficient in rapsodo, Driveline and other analytical tools and the pitcher development process.
Normal office environment as well as indoor and outdoor athletics facilities. Some travel required. Evening and weekend work required. Physically able to lift 50 pounds and attend practice and competitive sessions indoors and outdoors
