The American Rivers Conference is accepting applications for the position of Assistant to the Commissioner. This is a 20-month internship during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic years funded through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority & Women’s Internship Grant program. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. Application deadline is June 11, 2021. Anticipated start date is as close to July 1, 2021 as possible.
The Assistant to the Commissioner shall be involved in many aspects of conference office operations:
Public Information Working with the Deputy Commissioner, the individual shall update the conference website and social media postings, ensure updated statistics in all sports, conduct video interviews for the website and social media, and work with the conference SIDs collaboratively as needed.
Championships Update Championship Handbooks in all sports, staff championship events as an official representative of the conference, and update the conference website and social media with results.
DEI Continue the initiatives of the nine Athletics Diversity and Inclusion Designees, a position established on all A-R-C campuses through NCAA legislation. Duties include developing agendas for regular calls with ADIDs, moderating those calls, and assisting with conference-wide programming (webinars, publicity campaigns, etc.)
NCAA Championships The A-R-C will host three NCAA championships the next two academic years. The Assistant to the Commissioner shall be involved in the planning and event management for the 2022 and 2023 Division III Baseball Championships, and the 2022 Division III Wrestling Championship (primary duties in operations).
Compliance Prepare and present a short compliance session for regular AD conference calls, focusing on actual interpretations handed down by the NCAA.
Conference SAAC Prepare agendas and run the SAAC's bimonthly conference calls, and shall publicize campus and conference SAAC activities on the conference's SAAC website and social media.
A bachelor’s degree in a related field (sport management, communications, public relations, etc.) is required. The candidate must be available to work nights and weekends.

Honoring its heritage in Iowa and its expansion outside the state, the American Rivers Conference brand was established on August 9, 2018, to build on the academic and athletic success provided by its legacy, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The conference's origin dates back to December 8, 1922. Member institutions are Buena Vista University, Central College, Coe College, the University of Dubuque, Loras College, Luther College, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Simpson College, Wartburg College.
