James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA, Colonial Athletic Association and competes at the UCA Collegiate National Championships, is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Coach to the Spirit Program.
This is a part time position and will be responsible for assisting the Head Cheerleading Coach with position specific coaching, game day preparation, practices, and all other duties as assigned. The position is also responsible in assisting the Head Coach with the management and administration of the JMU Spirit Program with training, mentoring and development of the cheerleaders and mascots academic success, athletic abilities, and community service goals. Responsibilities include assisting with supervision of cheerleading team; discipline and counsel, supervise practices and training; travel with teams to all scheduled camps, games, tournaments, and competitions as needed; assist with athlete recruitment, working with branding and marketing of the Spirit Programs. Good communication skills and comfort teaching with a diverse group needed. This role will also assist in choreographing routines for the JMU Cheerleaders to enhance fan involvement at athletic events and complete other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will be guided by high morals and character that exemplify their strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and resilience to a fluid work schedule.
AACCA / USA Cheer Safety Certifications or be in process of attaining is required.
Strong social media skills/knowledge required.
Must be able to work evenings, holidays and weekends and travel as needed.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Must have a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets University requirements.
Preferred experience coaching with elite level high school, all-star, or collegiate teams.
Previous experience with elite level high school, all-star, or collegiate cheerleading program as a coach and/or athlete is preferred.
College experience preferred with all-girl and co-ed teams.
Experience as a coach in an elite level high school or all-star program preferred.
Experience with spotting advanced/elite tumbling skills preferred.
