This position is intended to give hands-on experience and to prepare individuals for a full-time position advising student-athletes at the collegiate level. The graduate aide will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day operations, including, but not limited to; mentoring student-athletes, advisement of selected student-athletes, monitoring the academic progress of selected athletes, supervising study hall, assisting in the coordination of tutoring, one-on-one study skill sessions with student-athletes, unofficial transcript evaluations, and completion of projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics. Essential Functions: •Ability to adhere to the rules, laws, and guidelines of the NCAA, GLIAC, Purdue University Northwest, FERPA, etc. •Must have strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to set appropriate professional boundaries with student-athletes. •Assist student-athletes with class scheduling and progress towards degree. •Monitor academic performance through progress reports and active communication with instructors as needed. •Connect with other departments across campus (Registrar’s Office, departmental advisors) •Assist academic advisors with overall student-athlete academic support. •Must be able to serve as a positive role model for student-athletes •Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including morning, evening, and weekend work. •Ability to communicate effectively. •Provide weekly academic reports to the Director of Athletics and coaching staff. •Meet with perspective student-athletes. •Assist in the planning and implementation of events and workshops throughout the academic year. •Serve as a supervisor and monitor of students in study hall
Bachelor’s degree required with a major in Education, Sports Management, Social Work, or related field preferred.
Anticipated Start Date: August 2021
Additional Salary Information: Must be accepted into the Purdue University Northwest graduate program and enroll in a minimum of six credits. The stipend is $12,000 ($1,000 monthly) plus tuition waiver. Candidate review begins immediately and continues until filled.
