Millikin University, a NCAA Division III member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), is accepting nominations and applications for an Assistant Swimming and Triathlon Coach Graduate Assistant. The successful candidate’s employment is contingent upon being admitted to a Millikin master’s program. Millikin University is a four-year undergraduate university with 2,100 full-time students enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Fine Arts, College of Professional Studies, and Tabor School of Business. Millikin is situated on an attractive seventy-acre campus in Decatur, IL (population of 85,000) 180 miles southwest of Chicago, 150 miles west of Indianapolis, and 120 miles northeast of St. Louis.
This position reports to the Head Swimming and Triathlon Coach. The Graduate Assistantship is designed as an educational experience for the next academic year, with a possible one year renewal. This position is designed to give an individual with an interest in coaching the opportunity to hone his or her skill development and coaching ability, gaining professional collegiate experiences in game and practice coaching, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, and all other aspects of running an intercollegiate swimming program, while completing their Master’s Degree. Primary Responsibilities/Athletic Functions:
Under the guidance of the Head Swimming and Triathlon Coach, the GA will:
Assist the Head Coach with all aspects of the swimming program
Gain professional collegiate experiences in game and practice coaching, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, and all other aspect of running an intercollegiate swimming and triathlon program
Assist in all areas of team development, including in-season and out-of-season activities as allowed by Millikin, CCIW, and NCAA
Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Swimming and Triathlon Program
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Swimming and Triathlon Coach
Under the guidance of the Athletic Director, the GA will:
Have an opportunity to gain an understanding of the structure and organization of the NCAA, specifically Division III
Have an opportunity to gain an understanding of the role of athletics in a relatively small comprehensive University
Have an opportunity to gain exposure to athletic operations and event management
Perform duties in the area of event management
Minimum Position Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with admission into master’s degree program at Millikin
Swimming experience at the collegiate level or coaching at the high school, club or college level (triathlon experience a plus)
The successful candidate must demonstrate effective and excellent leadership, motivational, organizational, and interpersonal skills
