Job Summary California Institute of Technology seeks an assistant athletic trainer to support the performance of our student athletes. Located in Pasadena, California, Caltech is the world’s leading STEM research institute and is a truly remarkable and rigorous university. With 975 undergraduate students, Caltech sponsors 16 intercollegiate teams in the very competitive D3 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Our athletic program is engaged in a tremendous transformation and all programs are seeing new success. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is a partner in the care of student athletes competing in the intercollegiate athletic programs. The athletic trainer’s primary responsibilities include: the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries of intercollegiate student-athletes; safe and appropriate management and maintenance of daily athletic training room activities and facilities; other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and the Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is also responsible to participate as a member of the college community and with all collaborative departmental functions as needed. Full time exempt position with excellent benefits. Starting salary $60,000 - $65,000 based on experience, education and expertise. Reports to the Head Athletic Trainer. Job Duties Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provide excellent prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses of student athletes on Caltech’s 16 NCAA Division III teams. Attend intercollegiate practices and home events. Provide health counseling and educational support to student athletes as part of their overall athletic experience. Communicate frequently with Head Coaches as to status and progress of student-athletes. Responsible for the management of student medical records and treatment documentation. Assist student-athletes, and as appropriate their families, in navigating the health insurance and health care system Collaborate with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver first class, well-coordinated, quality care to student-athletes. Assist with other administrative tasks as necessary. Consult with Head Coaches in design of Strength & Conditioning design, Demonstrate positive and effective communication in all aspects of job; including writing, speaking, listening, and non-verbal skills. Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, SCIAC Conference, Institute, and Department of Athletics rules, policies and expectations. Teach in the required physical education curriculum a variety of activities. Assuming additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation which may include game or facility supervision duties, including facility care and maintenance, attending all department and other assigned meetings and committee work.
