The Big Sky Conference, an NCAA Division I FCS conference located near Salt Lake City, Utah, is seeking a dynamic Associate/Assistant Commissioner of Communications and External Relations. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing the conference’s storytelling and brand-building efforts, and will oversee the conference’s communications, digital and video, marketing, promotional, and sports information outreach. The successful candidate will possess at least five years of full-time experience in sports communications, marketing, and/or journalism. This person must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Candidates must have a demonstrated history of being creative, taking initiative, and collaborating with fellow staff members and institutional personnel. The candidate will support the Big Sky Conference, its member institutions, and their staff members to promote and enhance the league’s student-athletes and coaches through press releases, videos, photos, social media, and marketing and branding initiatives. This position will report directly to the Deputy Commissioner and will supervise three full-time positions – two Directors of Communications plus a Director of Broadcast and Digital Media – as well as a part-time intern. This position will serve as the primary communications contact for a number of assigned sports. With special attention to digital and social media, the successful candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and a strong and eager communicator who aspires to be a great teammate and possesses the ability to manage and complete numerous assignments in a timely manner.
