Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

Under the direction of the facility Director, the Technical Services Manager is responsible for the technical systems and operations at the Bren Events Center and Intercollegiate Athletics complex. Responsibilities will include overseeing all technical operations for day-to-day use and event support including Audio, Visual, Lighting, and Rigging within the Arena and Room areas of Bren Events Center and Athletic Complex (Crawford Court, Crawford Field, Anteater Stadium, Anteater Ballpark, and Aquatics Complex). Incumbent will develop, implement and manage event technical strategies, details, and recommendations for department and clients as assigned. Will manage recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of student and support staff for all technical operations which may include, but not limited to technicians for Audio, Lighting, Video, Spotlight operators, and camera operators. Will provide comprehensive coordination and management oversight of moderately complex and/or medium-size events. May assist with event management duties for events with heavy technical elements in the Bren Events Center or areas within athletic complex as assigned by facility Director and/or Senior Associate Athletic Director. Occasionally, will handle Event Management responsibilities as assigned with supervision of technical and operational staff (in-house and contracted employees). This position will also be responsible for assisting with facility evacuation procedures and may be assigned to be a part of the campus emergency management zone crew.

Qualifications, Experience, and Education:

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• Minimum 2 years’ experience handling event coordination of technical details within an athletic or event setting
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles, and practices of the technical aspects of event planning, including event design, organization, and production
• Demonstrates good judgment in making decisions and managing events
• Skill in effectively meeting budget and time constraints
• Ability to complete large volume of diverse tasks efficiently
• Ability to effectively work with all members of the UCI Community, including VIPs
• Knowledge and skill to set and monitor work standards and protocols
• Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to work successfully with clients to produce high quality events that meet client needs and appropriately represent the campus
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations with competing priorities
• Proven ability to work on several tasks simultaneously
• Demonstrated experience maintaining a high standard of productivity within a broad scope of responsibility despite frequent interruptions
• Working knowledge of technical operations for special events including, but not limited to operating and programming Sound board, operating and programming Light board, operating and programming Video board, interpreting Event Manifests & diagrams, experience with various technical equipment, and rental equipment including theatrical lighting, microphones, and video gear
• Ability to train, instruct, monitor, and supervise part time (tech trainee) employees for all event technical support applications such as, but not limited to Audio, Lighting, Video, Camera operators, Spot Light Operators, etc.
• Working knowledge of internal Rigging systems and equipment including, but not limited to facility requirements and limits, rolling beam system, fixed steel load requirements, available equipment and staffing resources for internal and client needs
• Working knowledge of standard theatrical lighting systems, equipment, fixtures, dimmers, etc.
• Working knowledge of Tricaster, 3-Play Video replay system, LED Scoreboard Video, LED Advertising Tables, LED display monitors, portable projector & screen systems, and miscellaneous televisions used in a variety of ways for visual applications at a variety of events including, but not limited to: Sporting, cultural, theatrical, speaking engagements, receptions, meetings, graduations, etc.
