The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Head Coach for the Women’s Volleyball program. The University, located in Charlottesville, Virginia, is a selective public institution known for its teaching, research, and public service. UVA sponsors a 27 sport intercollegiate athletics program, which includes approximately 750 student-athletes. The Head Coach is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, communication and administration of the Volleyball program within the guidelines of authorized University and Athletics Department policies and procedures, support programs, and budgets; and in accordance with and responsibility for compliance to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) rules and regulations. The Head Coach routinely sets unit priorities, initiating actions, analyzing results, while providing supervision and leadership on all matters pertaining to sport program duties. Required Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree Experience: Professional experience coaching athletes and leading a Volleyball sports program is required. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the sport program and the ability to teach technical aspects of the sport. Knowledge of NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations , with the ability to interpret and correctly apply. Ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills in the development of a highly competitive Division I sports program. Ability to manage and develop assistant coaches, support staff, volunteers and student-athletes. Knowledge of athletic recruitment/retention methods and techniques with the ability to manage these program aspects. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the press and a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Knowledge of budget preparation and fiscal management. Ability to establish, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and sound judgments. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Strong organizational skills and the ability to oversee the effective maintenance of files pertaining to recruiting, compliance, team travel and budgetary expenditures. Licensure: A valid driver’s license is required.
Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sport Administration, or a related field. Experience: 4+ years of professional coaching experience preferred. Experience coaching at a Division I institution or professional level also preferred.
