The Graduate Assistant Sport Performance Coach reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance and assists in all aspects of sports performance for student-athletes. This position is a twenty-two-month appointment starting June 1, 2021. The Graduate Assistant must be enrolled in at least one course per quarter (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) in the Masters of Sports Administration which is a total of 11 courses. Aid will be provided to cover tuition and fees along with a monthly room & board stipend. This position does not provide benefits.
This Graduate Assistant Sport Performance Coach will assist the Northwestern Olympic Sports Performance Staff with the training for eighteen NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic sports. Candidates must possess a strong work ethic, great communication skills, and a passion for sports performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Assist the Sports Performance Staff with testing and evaluation
Assist with implementation of safe exercise technique
Maintenance and supervision of facilities
Assist in the development of sports performance programs for varsity sports
Other duties as assigned by the Sports Performance Staff
Acceptance into the Masters of Sports Administration program at Northwestern University (NU)
Provide proof of certification either through Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association OR Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association
Experience in a collegiate strength and conditioning setting working with female and male student-athletes
Certified in First Aid and CPR/AED
Ability to work productively with coaches, staff, and student-athletes
Experience supervising and directing student-athletes and other personnel
Ability and willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays
Ability to lift up to 50+lbs
Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference and the NCAA
Official start date is June 1, 2021. All interested applicants for the position at NU must be accepted into the Masters of Sports Administration graduate program. In order to take graduate courses, applicants must obtain a Summer quarter of 2021 acceptance. Graduate courses begin June 21, 2021.
