Pfeiffer University is seeking qualified candidate to fill the position of Women's Swim Head Coach/Aquatics Director. The selected candidate is responsible for all aspects of planning, developing and coaching the women’s swim team within the guidelines of the NCAA DIII rules and regulations. Provide leadership and instruction in personal and athletic development of student athletes at Pfeiffer University. This is a full-time, 12 month position who reports directly to the Director of Athletics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program; to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, the Conference and the NCAA;
Plan, organize, direct, and lead operations for the swimming program including budgeting, traveling, purchasing and facility usage;
Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds;
Plan, organize, and schedule season competition to be approved by the Sports Administrator assigned to that team;
Oversee preparation for team travel and competition;
Implement a recruiting program that is consistent with University, Conference and NCAA rules while maintaining a roster of no less than 20 female swimmers;
Screen and evaluate athletic qualifications of prospective student-athletes; coordinate with University Admissions Office;
Oversee, schedule and attend daily practice of players to instruct them in areas of deficiency;
Attend all swim practice sessions and schedule all competitions;
Fundraise each year for the Swim program and Falcon Club in conjunction with the Athletic Director and Advancement Office;
Develop and maintain relationships with Alumni;
Oversee and supervise pool facilities and work with Asst. AD for Event Management when high school, club, and community members use the facility;
Analyze meet and individual statistics for team performance;
Develop appropriate tracking of and maintain information regarding the scholastic performance of student-athletes;
Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters, consult with Sport Administrator for resolution of problems as required;
Staff member is responsible for the monitoring an institutional facility for the purposes of safety and facility security. Coach supervision is to prevent any activity that is dangerous to a student-athlete or other students. This does not allow the supervisor to direct or provide instruction to student-athletes while supervising.
Oversee the effective maintenance of pool;
Act as liaison with outside events and high school swim programs that use University pool facilities; Ability to promote and maintain strong community involvement;
Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
Supervise student-athletes participating in the swimming program; direct supervision of assistant coaching staff. Train and supervise lifeguards. Works independently. Sports budget oversight. Determine appropriate disciplinary actions with a code of conduct for student-athletes. Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the department, University, NCAA and Conference Rules and regulations. Accountable for budgetary matters; i.e., expense accounts, recruiting, travel.
The employee should be physically fit for the full range of physical activities. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. The scope of the position frequently requires working weekends, as well as overnight, and out-of-town travel, particularly during the swim season.
Bachelor’s degree required and minimum of three years experience in coaching intercollegiate athletics or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred. Lifeguard, First-Aid, CPR Certified.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability
Ability to lead and guide Division III student-athletes.
Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of swimming and the functions of a swimming pool facility.
Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes;
Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques;
Strong interpersonal and communications kills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
Ability to understand, follow and enforce safety procedures;
Ability to foster a cooperative environment;
Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments;
Knowledge and skill in the use of integrated software systems and Microsoft applications;
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
Effective planning and organizational skills;
Valid driver’s license with good driving record; must be insurable.
