The University of Missouri, Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the availability of a one year postdoctoral fellowship position for a graduate of a counseling or clinical doctoral psychology program. This is a full-time position housed within the Department of Athletics at the University of Missouri; the post-doctoral fellow will provide services exclusively to student-athletes within the department. This position is designed for someone who is pursuing licensure as a psychologist and is seeking specialized experience working within an athletics department providing psychological services to NCAA Division I student-athletes. Our mission is to provide comprehensive psychological services that support student-athletes in becoming their best selves; to promote mental health and emotional wellness; to destigmatize help-seeking; and to contribute to a safe, welcoming and multiculturally aware athletic department. A necessary qualification for this position is a demonstration of past efforts, and a sincere commitment to working toward diversity, equity and inclusive excellence within our department. A thorough understanding of the context of the current social unrest and understanding/knowledge of the longstanding history of oppression within the U.S is also required. The postdoctoral fellowship is designed to provide a unique training opportunity under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will provide confidential individual counseling and consultation services to approximately 550 student-athletes and 20 sport teams, crisis intervention, and consultation with mental performance coaches, team coaches, athletic trainers, dieticians, and team physicians. The Fellow will have opportunities to develop and implement specific programs that match their interest and our need. The Fellow will also be part of our Integrated Health Care Team (IHT); this team includes a sports medicine physician, dietician, athletic trainer, psychologist and psychiatrist. The team meets once a week in order to follow student-athletes with complex health/mental health concerns. A unique aspect of this position is that it allows close collaboration with mental performance coaches, as authorized by medical releases. Our mental performance coaches work individually with student-athletes and closely with teams and coaching staff. Thus, they have unique understandings of team dynamics that can assist in gaining a broader view of the student-athlete in context of their teammates and team culture. Our mental performance coaches tend to be highly trusted by student-athletes and play a pivotal role in helping our therapists understand the broader context of team norms/dynamics as well as being partners with the therapist in reinforcing change goals set by student-athletes in therapy. To apply, please complete an on-line application referencing Job ID# 34932- Post Doctoral Fellow, submit a cover letter explaining how you anticipate this position fitting your professional goals/interests and suggesting how your training, experience, and strengths would contribute to the mission and goals of our program.
