Summary: Reporting to the Associate Athletic Director for Medical Services, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will assist with the daily operation and management of the Athletic Training Center.
Work Performed: Serve as the primary, and often sole, caregiver providing prevention and rehabilitative care to injured collegiate athletes. This position provides services including, but are not limited to, physical screenings, injury prevention programs, athletic consults, injury assessment, and treatment and case management of injured athletes/ undergoing rehabilitation. This position will directly work with the women’s soccer and tennis programs. Nights and weekend work required as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Medical Services: Demonstrate high level of expertise with injury prevention, injury treatment and injury rehabilitation; Coordinate all training room treatment times and schedules for designated sports; Maintain permanent injury and treatment records; Coordinate practice and event coverage for designated NCAA collegiate programs; Final authority on return to play decisions for each student athlete from injury, illness, and mental health concerns
Records for Student Athletes: Maintain permanent injury and treatment records; Complete medical paperwork required by University, Big South Conference and NCAA for designated student athletes; Establish and maintain required emergency paperwork and records on all student athletes; Drug Testing for students per institutional policy and best practices
Treatments and Safety Preparations: Coordinate daily treatments, evaluations, and rehabilitation of student athletes; Maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment; Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program; Final authority on safety of facilities for play due to inclement weather; Maintain all policies and procedures within the Department of Athletics for both safety and medical services
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Experience: All athletic trainer certifications; BOC Certification; South Carolina DHEC Certified or be eligible to do so. National provider number. CPR/BLS certification. Three to five years in related field preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work effectively independently and as part of a team and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted practices. Must be computer literate with Microsoft. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service. Previous experience with athletic insurance claims desirable.
