Executive, Executive - Associate Athletics Director
The Associate Athletic Director for Academics shall be an academic advisor for student-athletes and provide daily oversight of the NAU Athletics Student Development/Academic staff. This position will work cooperatively with student-athletes, coaches, athletic department staff members and other campus offices and departments who are involved with the academic lives of student-athletes. This position will provide leadership and academic support for approximately 350 student athletes.
In coordination with the University’s general academic advising structure, the Associate Athletic Director will play a prominent role in framing advising issues for student-athletes. This position will have a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum, academic rules and regulations and the unique needs of student-athletes. This position is a member of the NAU Athletics senior staff and will work in coordination with the Athletic Department’s compliance office, the Office of the Registrar, the Office of Enrollment management, the Office of Disability Services, the Gateway advising center and the institution's Faculty Athletic Representative to ensure student-athletes remain in compliance with NCAA and Big Sky Conference policy.
NAU is currently engaged in an Organizational Growth and Effectiveness Initiative, which focuses on positioning the University for future success of its operational practices. As a result, some aspects of this position may be subject to change, such as, but not limited to: duties, titles, reporting structure, etc.
Related supervisory work experience
Demonstrated sensitivity to, respect for, and understanding of educational and social developmental needs of student-athletes
Full knowledge of the NCAA academic regulations and university degree requirements
General knowledge of the organizational structure and operational procedures in institutions of higher learning with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with university teaching faculty and administration
