James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking a Director of Compliance. The position reports to the Assistant Athletics Director of Compliance and will work closely with all 18 Division I sports. The position is full-time and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The Director of Compliance will be responsible for monitoring bylaws 15 and 16. This position will serve as a liaison to several on campus constituents including the Office of Financial Aid, University Business Office, Card Services, and the Bookstore. This position will be instrumental in assisting with the compliance offices educational efforts as well. The Director of Compliance will be responsible for providing timely and accurate interpretations to coaches and staff, and when needed, will investigate and report NCAA violations.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The Director of Compliance will monitor all aspects of financial aid for all 18 Division I sports. Responsibilities within monitoring bylaw 15 include: A. Overseeing the renewal process of athletic financial aid, making and communicating adjustments to athletics aid as needed and monitoring team equivalencies and counters. B. Monitoring outside scholarships received by student-athlete to ensure they meet NCAArequirements. C. Overseeing the National Letter of Intent (NLI) process. This includes the pre-approval process, generating NLI’s, and validating NLI’s. D. Generating accurate squad lists and working with the Office of Financial Aid to identify and determine the category of institutional financial aid.
The Director of Compliance will monitor all aspects of bylaw 16 which include: A. All awards provided to student-athletes including participation, special achievement and championship awards B. Review and approval of complimentary admissions C. Coordination of a vehicle registration program
The Director of Compliance will assist in the educational efforts of the athletics compliance office, which includes creating and presenting rules education materials to student-athletes and staff. This position will also use analytical skills to provide timely and accurate interpretations to coaches and staff.
Other responsibilities include: A. Assisting the compliance staff with on-campus recruiting activities with prospective student-athletes B. Assisting the Assistant AD of Compliance with the submission of various reports C. Teaching and supervising any compliance practicum/internship students D. Being the athletics liaison to various departments on campus including the Office of Financial Aid, University Business Office, Card Services, and the Bookstore E. Assist in investigating and reporting violations via RSRO F. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required and a Master’s degree in a related field is preferred. Qualified candidates must have experience working in NCAA rules compliance or an institutional financial aid office. They should have a strong working knowledge of NCAA regulations with preference given to those who have worked with financial aid. This position should also have working knowledge of Compliance Assistant (CA), LSDBi, and NCAA RSRO. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, demonstrated interpersonal skills, and be an organized individual who can work well with others. Lastly, they must have a demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and an ability to establish a good rapport and effective working relationships with student-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff.
