East Stroudsburg University is currently seeking a Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Department: Athletics Type of Position: Full-Time Non-Faculty Coach
Job Summary: The Head Women's Volleyball Coach is responsible for administering all aspects of the NCAA Division II women's volleyball program including but not limited to planning; personnel training and supervision; fiscal management; practice and competition supervision, scheduling, and preparation; summer camps, clinics, and lessons; fund raising; recruiting; monitoring academic progress of student-athletes through graduation; monitoring behavioral/disciplinary standing of student-athletes; establishing positive public relations with support staff, community members, media, and alumni; and fulfilling other duties as they arise or as they are assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Responsible for being thoroughly familiar with and complying with all ESU Athletic Department, university, PSAC, NCAA, and sport-specific governing rules, policies, and procedures and disseminating such information to assistant coaches and student-athletes;
Responsible for completing the mandatory NCAA coaches' education modules no later than August 1 of each year;
Responsible for assisting with the preparation of and adherence to deadlines and specific dates for the timely completion of all administrative forms and related materials;
Responsible for submitting an annual sport plan and competition/practice reports to the Director of Athletics by the first of each month;
Responsible for providing the Director of Athletics with a hard copy of all necessary compliance and internal operations for by the dates requested;
Responsible for arranging with the Director of Athletics the use of appropriate facilities and keeping appropriate individuals informed of the condition of equipment and facilities;
Responsible for providing, in cooperation with Facilities Management, a safe environment for all practices, competitions, and events related to the women's volleyball program;
Responsible for providing instruction and training necessary to create skills, techniques, and physical conditioning sufficient to enable each student-athlete to compete safely and competently;
Responsible for providing on-site supervision during all practices, competitions, and events related to women's volleyball;
Responsible for providing supervision when using residence halls during pre-season training camps and non-session breaks;
Responsible for working with the equipment manager to distribute inventory, maintain, collect, and store equipment and uniforms used within the women's volleyball program;
Responsible for cooperating with the athletic training staff to ensure student-athletes have returned all necessary forms to be eligible to practice and compete;
Responsible for reporting all student-athlete injuries to the athletic training staff within 24 hours of the injury (immediately for serious injuries);
Responsible for communicating and cooperating with the sports information director to ensure appropriate media coverage of student-athletes and team, including the timely production of print materials and media releases;
Responsible for providing appropriate guidance, instruction, training, and supervision of all personnel associated with the women's volleyball program.
Responsible for completing annual written performance appraisals of assistant coaches and providing those appraisals to the Director of Athletics;
Responsible for submitting, in advance, his or her monthly and annual work schedule for approval by the Director of Athletics;
Responsible for abiding by the Athletic Department Guidelines for hiring volunteer coaches;
Responsible for keeping the Director of Athletics informed of all events and activities, whether positive or negative, surrounding the women's volleyball program in a timely manner;
Responsible for exhibiting a high level of expertise in coaching volleyball and seeking self-improvement by attending clinics, workshops, seminars, and other related professional development programs;
Responsible for communicating and cooperating with the ESU Faculty Athletics Representative;
Responsible for assisting the Athletics Academic Coordinator in the monitoring and advising of the women's volleyball student-athletes' academic progress;
Responsible for treating the academic achievement and requirements necessary for progress toward a degree as a matter of the highest priority for the women's volleyball student-athletes;
Responsible for assisting the Director of Athletics in the scheduling details of events related to the women's volleyball program to include but not limited to Senior Night, Parents/Family Weekend, Homecoming, and Alumni celebrations;
Responsible for providing the Director of Athletics with practice, competition, and other team activity schedules during mid-term and final examination periods for approval;
Responsible for effectively recruiting qualified student-athletes to attend East Stroudsburg University in accordance with NCAA, PSAC, and ESU policies;
Responsible for submitting all recruiting documentation to the athletic administration within 24 hours of the request;
Responsible for demonstrating a commitment to recruiting student-athletes of diverse backgrounds;
Responsible for having an appropriate number of student-athletes on the women's volleyball team as stipulated by department policy and maintaining the stipulated roster size;
Responsible for attending and participating in all Athletic Department staff meetings and other Athletic Department-sponsored activities to include but not limited to the Hall of Fame Banquet, Academic Awards Ceremony, Warrior Luncheon, Golf Tournament;
Responsible for taking an active part and assisting the Director of Athletics with department fund raising activities;
Responsible for fund raising to enhance the ESU women's volleyball grants-in-aid and ESU Foundation scholarships budget (i.e., athletic scholarships);
Responsible for receiving approval from the Director of Athletics prior to conducting any specific fund raising activities or events;
Responsible for representing the university on the highest professional level with appropriate dress, sportsmanship, etiquette, dignity, integrity, strength of character, honesty, and ethical behavior;
Responsible for abiding by policies and procedures for all aspects of athletics finances (e.g., purchasing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, petty cash, camps and clinics, fund raising, handling of receipts for deposits or credits, etc.);
Responsible for self-reporting NCAA, PSAC, and ESU violations to the Director of Athletics and Associate AD for Compliance when the coach has actual (or even potential) knowledge of a violation;
Responsible for utilizing official department designee(s) for communication with institutional offices (e.g., Admissions, Financial Aid, Residence Life, Dining Services, Computing Services, Facilities Management, etc.);
Responsible for abiding by the Code of Conduct for Coaches found in the Athletic Department Policies and Procedures Manual;
Responsible for earning and sustaining the goodwill of the various publics, such as community, student body, faculty/staff, parents, alumni, donors, corporate sponsors, and media;
Responsible for implementing and participating with the women's volleyball team in a variety of community service and community engagement activities;
Responsible for actively involving oneself in other areas of the university by serving on campus committees, attending other university events, activities, and meetings; etc.;
Responsible for managing the activities of the women's volleyball team in a fair, consistent, reasonable, honest, efficient, ethical, professional, and financially responsible manner;
Responsible for participating in resolution of student-athlete complaints under the Athletic Department student complaint resolution procedure;
Responsible for treating opposing coaches, official, students, and colleagues with respect and dignity;
Responsible for fostering positive growth and development for student-athletes while encouraging them to enjoy a positive experience in the sport of women's volleyball;
Responsible for creating and conducting an annual summer volleyball camp and other camps, clinics, lessons, and events, as feasible, throughout the year;
Responsible for recognizing outstanding individual or combined efforts and accomplishments in women's volleyball competition, in the classroom and in the community.
Responsible for determining, within the scope of the Department of Athletics policies and procedures, which women's volleyball team members will receive post-season awards and confer them at the annual Department of Athletics awards program;
Maintain current first aid, CPR, and AED certifications;
Complete and submit incident/injury reports, when necessary;
Request the submission of work orders through the Assistant to the Athletic Director;
Respond to emergencies and various urgent requests any hour of the day;
Responsible for providing the Director of Athletics at the conclusion of the women's volleyball season with an annual, season-ending report, which should include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following:
The number of participants at the start and end of season,
Individual and team academic and athletic accomplishments and highlights,
Community service and community engagement activities the women's volleyball team and coaches have completed,
Recommendations for future major equipment needs,
Recommendations for facility improvements,
Recommendations for women's volleyball program improvements,
Update on the status of recruiting student-athletes for the following season,
Future goals for the women's volleyball coaches and the women's volleyball program, and
Any other data related to the head coach evaluation process and instrument that will allow the Director of Athletics to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the head coach.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Required Education, Experience, and Training:
A Bachelor's Degree is required; a Master's Degree is preferred;
Required certifications include current first aid, CPR, and AED certifications, or ability to obtain immediately upon being hired;
A thorough knowledge of and commitment to compliance with the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the NCAA, PSAC, ESU, and other applicable affiliations is required;
Demonstrated ability to coach volleyball is required, preferably at the college level;
Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain qualified student-athletes;
Demonstrated ability to scout opponents and break down video footage using available technology;
Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead student-athletes on their path to graduation;
Demonstrated ability to lead student-athletes in community service and community engagement activities;
Demonstrated ability to engage donors and sponsors to raise funds in support of women's volleyball scholarships and other program needs;
Demonstrated ability to conduct volleyball camps, clinics, lessons, and other fund raising events;
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required; and
Computer literacy is required.
Work Schedule: All coaching positions are hired on a 47 week per year contract. The position includes frequent nights and weekends, as well as frequent travel to games and other athletics events related to the sport and recruitment.
Salary: Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits. Final selection will be based upon a successful interview and background check. All candidates must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. at the time of employment.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Ability to demonstrate and teach volleyball skills and techniques required of student-athletes competing in intercollegiate volleyball;
Ability to travel for the purpose of recruiting student-athletes and for volleyball competitions.
Consistent with the season and conditions under which the student-athlete is recruited and the sport is conducted, practiced, or played.
