Indiana Wesleyan University is seeking candidates for the position of Head Men's Soccer Coach. MINISTRY VALUES and STRATEGY 1.The Head Men’s Soccer Coach must be committed to the Lordship of Christ. The Coach must continually seek opportunities to grow and possess strong character traits through the regular practicing of the spiritual disciplines (e.g. prayer, meditation, Bible reading) and develop ministry values that express what God can do in impacting student athletes with whom they interact. 2.The Coach’s ministry strategy is to serve student athletes and the entire campus by creating a spiritually rich environment supporting community development, quality programs and exciting innovative initiatives. 3.The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate teaching competence and integration of personal faith and the truths of Christianity with instruction in the classroom and on the field.
OVERALL FUNCTION The reporting relationship is split between the Director of Athletics and the Chair of the Health and Human Performance Division. For Athletics, the primary responsibilities are to direct, support and supervise a successful intercollegiate men’s soccer program representing assistant coaches and student athletes. The Head Coach is responsible for the men’s soccer budget, strategic planning, fields and facilities, policies, compliance, scholarships, promotion and leadership of the team. The Head Coach will also be assigned a teaching load to be determined on the basis of background and experience.
Develop, manage, and successfully coach the sport of men’s soccer including practices, games, scheduling, recruiting, equipment management, reporting scores and statistics, and website updating.
Manage and operate within budget parameters, without exception. Submit all receipts and budget reports on time as directed by Director of Athletics.
Ensure strict adherence to all Crossroads League and NAIA by-laws and regulations.
Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance rules, policies, and procedures as well as ethical standards of behavior.
Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes.
Ensure the spiritual, physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.
Responsible for successful coaching, to include maximizing the team's potential/abilities, keeping athletes eligible, supporting the spiritual development of each player, and retaining athletes through graduation.
Supervise and mentor coaching assistants as directed and approved by Director of Athletics.
Assist to propagate a comprehensive public relations program.
Manage all fund-raising and booster events in accordance with University, Crossroads League and NAIA expectations, and institutional rules, policies, and procedures.
Learn, understand, and adhere to all NAIA guidelines and maintain up-to-date rosters, squad lists and other information keeping compliance as a first priority.
Coordinate and develop organized schedules and submit weekly countable hours report.
Participate in long-range planning and assessment, attend all departmental training sessions and meetings, read and comply with all departmental policy manuals.
Teaching load is required within the Division of Health and Human Performance and a commitment to excellence in the teaching setting is expected. Additional non-traditional season coaching duties may be required.
Plan and implement daily practice sessions.
Communicate with officials and officials’ assignor.
Work closely with Facilities and Grounds workers to insure proper upkeep of athletic facilities.
