Sul Ross State University invites applications for the position of Athletic Director, who provides administration and supervision of all intercollegiate athletics activities at the University. This is a 12 month, 40 hour/week position with a full benefits package.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Athletic Director provides vision, leadership, and direction with personal integrity in administering all aspects of a competitive college athletics program. The Athletic Director is responsible for the operation and accountability of the Athletics Department including: leadership, management, supervision, fund-raising, and campus-wide involvement. Areas of focus should include: advocating for the academic success (including retention and graduation) of student-athletes; promoting the quality of the complete student-athlete experience; hiring and retaining quality staff and coaches; and developing a plan for facilities enhancement and maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
. Responsible for all aspects of the Sul Ross State University athletics program.
. Serve as an advocate for student-athlete development and well being.
. Ensure alignment of the athletics program with the mission of the university.
. Work closely with the enrollment management staff for recruiting strategies and student advising.
. Hire, manage, and evaluate head coaches and athletics administrative staff.
. Oversee and direct a balanced budget.
. Lead and direct fundraising efforts and participate in alumni functions in conjunction with university development and alumni relations staff.
. Market and promote the athletics program and athletics events.
. Serve as a spokesperson for intercollegiate athletics.
. Ensure the compliance of all athletics department employees with the laws, policies, rules and regulations governing the University and its employees, as well as the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the American Southwest Conference (ASC).
Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Sports Administration, Education or related field; and five years of coaching and/or athletic administrative experience. Prior full-time coaching and/or athletic administration experience with evidence of effective leadership, communication strategies, coaching, and recruiting skills. Ability to work independently and in a team, good organizational skills, ability to communicate effectively.
Preferred: Master’s Degree in Physical Education, Sports Administration, Education Administration, Organizational Leadership or related field. Combination of at least five years of experiences as head coach and/or athletic administrative experience at the collegiate level. Experience at college institutions of comparable size and facilities. Working knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III and American Southwest Conference (ASC) regulations is preferred.
