The Department of Athletics is seeking an Assistant Coach for Women’s Volleyball. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term professional faculty position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Athletics Director.

The Assistant Coach provides leadership, vision, and strategic planning for Women’s Volleyball Program. This position will manage all aspects of the intercollegiate athletic team, which includes and is not limited to: the management of academic success, budget management, recruiting, teaching/coaching volleyball skills, planning and execution of workouts, scheduling opponents, maintaining program integrity with respect to NCAA, PAC-12, OUS, and OSU rules and regulations, equipment ordering, travel planning, and fundraising.
The Assistant Coach will effectively recommend and make lead decisions with the Head Coach regarding program direction for success. Decisions are supervised by program administrator (Deputy Athletic Director and/or Athletic Director).
The Coach is guided by NCAA, PAC-12, OUS, and OSU rules and regulations and must have a solid understanding of each governing body’s guidelines.
This position requires a clear and unambiguous commitment to compliance of all National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regulations for Division I (FBS) universities.
20% SUPERVISION / TEACHING / LEADERSHIP Provide leadership, supervision and direction for assigned staff. Plan, assign and review work, establish goals for each position and assess performance through completion of evaluations. Hire, train, promote employees. Discipline or effectively recommend discipline up to and including dismissal. Address grievances, developing a framework for corrective actions as necessary.
Provides general leadership and training for a team of 15-20 college aged women. Direct workouts and coordinate with strength and conditioning for appropriate training. Teach and coach specific volleyball skills and strategies. Provide a safe environment for workouts and independently make decisions regarding the nature of workouts. Provide a balanced environment with a shared oversight of student-athlete academic progress.
20% RECRUITING Recruit potentially successful students to Oregon State and be able to creatively verbalize the OSU niche opportunities in each recruiting situation.
20% LEADERSHIP & VISION Assist the Head Coach with a long-term strategic plan for the Women’s Volleyball Program that will lead to overall athletic and academic success. Maintain program integrity with respect to NCAA, PAC-12, OUS, and OSU rules and regulations.
10% SCOUTING OPPONENTS & MATCH PREPARATION Scout future opponents by film, watching games, and/or telephone reports. Retrieve video tapes of future opponents. Develop scouting reports on future opponents. Provide consultation and expert advice to Head Coach and team members.
10% BUDGETARY OVERSIGHT Propose and maintain an annual budget. Provide sound accounting and tracking principles and practices to keep up-to-date on current balances. Delegate, as necessary, but is responsible for all issuances of state funds. Make sound, independent purchasing decisions based on budget analysis. Plan travel accordingly and within the guidelines of the budget.
10% EQUIPMENT Maintain all Volleyball equipment and prudently and independently purchase new equipment when needed based on experiential analyses.
10% FUNDRAISING Coordinate athletic camps and tournament hosting. Build relationships with OSU Volleyball alumna and boosters. As directed by the Athletic Director will participate in OSU Fundraising activities, which will include appearances and public speaking.
Bachelor’s degree in field of choice.
Five (5) years of full-time coaching experience in Division I Volleyball or the equivalent (international and/or Olympic coaching experience).
Demonstrated ability to recruit elite student-athletes.
This position is designated as a critical, security-sensitive or safety-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every two (2) years.
This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per OSU Standard 576-056-0000 et seq.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications:
Coaching experience in an NCAAPOWER 5 conference institution (ACC, BIG 10, BIG 12, PAC 12, SEC).
Coaching excellence as determined by competition records and post-season advancement.
Demonstrated West-Coast recruiting prowess.
History and success in International Recruiting.
Must be able to multi-task in a relatively stressful environment.
