The mission of the NC State University Department of Athletics is to prepare student-athletes to compete at the highest level and to inspire them to be leaders now and for the future by providing the best environment to achieve their athletic, academic, and personal aspirations as well as providing support for the professional development of our coaches and staff, all within the role of the greater institutional relationships to the University.
This position will support the Division 1A Women’s Volleyball Team at NC State University that competes within the ACC and NCAA.
The Head Volleyball Coach is responsible for the leadership and management of all phases of NCSU Volleyball Program. The Head Volleyball Coach conducts all applicable operations in a manner that upholds the philosophy and objectives of the Department of Athletics and the University.
The Head Volleyball Coach will:
Adhere to and enforce all policies and procedures of the Department and University, as well as the rules and regulations of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the NCAA and other authorities that legitimately influence the intercollegiate athletics program. Oversee the selection of elite student-athletes. Ensure compliance by staff with NCAA guidelines. Initiate the process for determining academic eligibility. Monitor the eligibility status and promote the academic progress of student-athletes by working closely with the academic support program for student-athletes and the Assistant Director of Athletics/Certification and Compliance, and supporting the Academic Skills Program. Assist in enforcing study hall attendance for freshmen and others with grade deficiencies. Submit the sport’s annual budget requests. Manage the sport’s program within the framework of a balanced budget. Oversee the selection, purchase, fitting and maintenance of team equipment, to include uniforms, athletic equipment and supplies. Schedule and conduct regular practice sessions in and out of season, as permitted by NCAA rules and regulations. Develop and implement strategies for motivating student-athletes to perform at maximum levels. Arrange a competitive event schedule, in conjunction with the sport administrator. Coordinate team travel with the assigned administrator. Oversee the conditioning and training of team members, in conjunction with the assigned Strength Coach, Athletics Trainer and Team Physician, to ensure that student-athletes are physically prepared for competition. Supervise assigned assistant coaches, part-time assistant coaches, director of operations, graduate assistants and other support staff to best ensure their compliance with applicable rules, policies and procedures. Provide orientation, training and remediation as needed. Conduct performance evaluations and recommends salary increases for staff each year. Participate in clinics, exhibitions and camp activities, as approved. Assist with approved fundraising activities, as requested. Participate in marketing and media activities, to include speaking engagements, television and radio interviews, and press conferences, as approved or requested. Demonstrate a commitment to the development of a national profile for the Wolfpack Athletic Program. Demonstrate a commitment to earning high scores on the 2 national academic metrics: Federal Graduation Rate and APR.
Other work/responsibilities: As assigned by Sport Administrator
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required with experience in relevant independent instructional or educational activities; specific minimum experience is at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
At least five years of collegiate volleyball coaching experience.
A knowledge and commitment to compliance with ACC, NCAA, and University guidelines.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Prior experience in Division 1 Collegiate Volleyball.
