McPherson College seeks a self-motivated, service-oriented individual with a passion for learning and academic success to fill the position of Athletic Academic Support Coordinator, a full-time, benefits-eligible, 10-month position. Under the guidance of the Director of Academic Development, the Athletic Academic Support Coordinator monitors and facilitates the academic success of student-athletes, ensuring their timely progress toward graduation. Essential functions include monitoring the attendance and academic performance of student-athletes and assisting them in developing effective study habits and academic plans as well completing the administrative tasks supporting efforts to recruit and retain student-athletes.

Experience: At least two years’ experience as a tutor or working in an educational setting is expected. Experience as a student-athlete is helpful in understanding the major issues concerning student-athlete welfare and conduct, academic performance and enhancement, student-athlete retention and persistence, the value of intercollegiate athletics, and the relationship between intercollegiate athletics and higher education. Education: A bachelor’s degree is required.Interpersonal Skills: Proven ability to relate well with students, coaches, college staff and faculty. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle confidential information with discretion according to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Other Skills: Demonstrated organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated knowledge of academic study skill strategies designed to support college students. Excellent computer skills to include data management of progress reports, grades, study hall and other academic information to support the delivery of academic support services. Ability to work a variety of schedules and hours including evenings and weekends consistent with the needs of the position. Facility with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, and Outlook is required in the McPherson College workplace.
