Norfolk State University, a NCAA Division I institution, is seeking applicants for the Director of Strength and Conditioning. This candidate will assist with the design and implementation of the sports performance programs to enhance athletic performance, minimize injury potential and support the student-athletes. The ideal candidate will be a team player, as he/she will work in coordination with sports medicine, nutrition, and analytics to develop a high-performance team. The position will report to the Associate Athletics Director for Compliance/Health Services. The Director of Strength and Conditioning primary responsible is to design and develop strength and conditioning programs for all University’s 15 Intercollegiate Athletic teams to enhance on-field performance, identify and conduct appropriate tests to evaluate performance, work in coordination with sports medicine to reduce injury risk, and collect data as required by analytics to continually monitor student-athletes. The ideal candidate will have a background in collegiate strength and conditioning. Duties include, but not limited to: 1. Develop, coach and monitor strength and conditioning programs for assigned athletic teams. 2. Work in coordination with sports medicine, nutrition, analytics to develop a high-performance team. 3. Develop and/or assist in the delivery of programs to reduce injury risk and enhance performance. 4. Teach proper lifting technique and assist in spotting heavy lifts. 5. Assist in testing, computation of results and evaluation of individual cadet-athletes in cooperation with High Performance team. 6. Assist in the general maintenance and cleaning of the facility and its equipment. 7. Supervises injured athletes’ training in cooperation with Training staff and High Performance Team. 8. Maintain database for all training records. 9. Organize, implement and assist in educational workshops and lectures. 10. Keeps abreast of the current trends of Strength and Conditioning for peak performance. 11. Assist in the coordination of summer training programs. 12. Assist in the planning of short and long term goals of the High-Performance department. 13. Travel; depending on competitive schedule. 14. Researches and analyzes new trends, philosophies and techniques in the areas of strength training, conditioning and flexibility practices, as well as new equipment in the strength and conditioning field. 15. Supervises, manages, evaluates and hires all staff. Minimum Qualifications1. Must have Bachelor’s degree in Health, Exercise Physiology or related field is required. Preferred Qualifications1.
