The purpose of this position is to contribute a unique interpretation and/or analysis of women’s basketball and women’s golf as the primary communications contact within the University of Oregon Athletic Department. The Assistant Director, Athletic Communications will interview and observe student-athletes, coaches, sport officials, and competing teams; provide stories, updates, analysis and prognostics of the team and ensuing competitions to elevate interest in the athletic department and the specific team; provide interpretations, insights and analysis to fans and international media outlets via the GoDucks.com website, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and other multimedia outlets; and act as the primary liaison between the athletics department and all media.
The Assistant Director, Athletic Communications regularly comes into contact with local media (Pacific Northwest), domestic and international media, coaching staffs, student-athletes, donors, fans, communication colleagues from competing universities, athletic department personnel, and other key stakeholders of Oregon Athletics.
This position reports to the Associate Athletic Director, Communications, and independently makes decisions regarding the handling of information available to the media.
The Assistant Director, Athletic Communications is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the University, Pac-12 Conference and the NCAA.
Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s degree. • Two years of experience in a collegiate communications/media relations/public relations/sports information environment, which should have included the following:
o Experience in writing game stories and game notes along with editing and designing of media guides and game programs. o Experience in Associated Press-style writing skills and proficiency in layout and design software (Photoshop and InDesign). o Experience serving the needs of diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications • NCAA Championships experience. • Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations or a closely-related field. • Familiarity with statistical software (Statcrew). • Thorough knowledge of all UO sports sponsors, including an understanding of the role of local and national media in assisting efforts in promoting our nationally recognized teams.
