Chicago State University seeks a dynamic, innovative, forward thinking, and experienced leader to direct a championship level Athletic Department. Reporting to the President of the University, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics is responsible for understanding how to leverage the unique opportunities for growth and advancement at the University; fostering high standards of integrity, athletic excellence, academic success and compliance; having strong management and fiscal skills; developing excellent relationships with both internal and external constituents; and directing and hiring coaches who are committed not only to winning, but to uphold the welfare of student-athletes and to follow NCAA compliance guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities
•Responsible for the vision, leadership, strategic planning, policy development and management of a competitive and high quality Division I athletics program.
•Provide strategic leadership and establish clear expectations toward goals related to building a culture that enhances accountability, competitiveness, student academic achievement, student-athlete experience, compliance, and financial management that reflects the mission and values of the University as a whole.
•Work with the CSU Foundation office to develop fundraising strategies with team goals and oversee a fundraising plan for Athletics to achieve annual goals while
•Maximize all channels of revenue generation, especially as it relates to corporate sponsorship dollars from Chicago-based companies.
•Organize and supervise the entire Athletics staff and delegate specific responsibilities to ensure the efficient and productive operation of all administrative and operational business functions of the department.
•Be a visible university leader on campus and in the community, and represent the University and Athletic Department to external constituents in a manner that demonstrates personal and professional integrity and promotes department interests.
•Ensure the department operates within the mission of the University and in compliance with NCAA, Conference, and University rules and guidelines.
•Improve and enhance facilities to better serve student-athletes, coaches, staff, and all athletics supporters.
•Ensure and advance the Department’s commitment to maximize the educational potential and well-being of all student-athletes through establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and communication with faculty, administrators, staff, student body, student government association, alumni, friends, booster clubs, and the local community regarding CSU Athletics.
•Strengthen all sports to be competitive at the championship level. Recruit, mentor, support, and supervise a diverse pool of strong, ethical, and talented coaches to foster success.
•Encourage diversity and inclusion within the Athletic Department with regard to students, staff, administrators, and coaches.
•Participate in planning, communication, and collaboration with the President as a member of the President’s Executive Leadership team to ensure alignment between the goals of the Athletic Department with the University’s mission and goals.
Established record of administrative excellence within the management of an NCAA athletics program.
Demonstrated brand marketing, public relations, and media experience to develop corporate sponsorship opportunities that enhance CSU’s brand and presence in the market.
Demonstrated managerial and business acumen, and project management experience in relation to facility renovation, enhancement and expansion.
Knowledge of NCAA regulations, requirements and reporting systems, and the legal, ethical, and regulatory environment of intercollegiate athletics.
Excellent skill in written and interpersonal communication, giving presentations, customer service, and supervisory/management skills.
Ability and desire to successfully grow the current program on all levels, especially reputation and functioning, to take CSU to its next stage of excellence
Lead with the highest ethical and moral standards.
