Head Athletic Trainer
Job Purpose Towson University, a Division I member of the Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking a Head Athletic Trainer. Under the direct supervision of the Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance, will assist with medical care and comprehensive athletic training services for student-athletes in Intercollegiate athletics including but not limited to medical clearance, injury prevention, care of athletic injuries and rehabilitation while working in a performance model with other sports performance professionals. This individual will serve as the direct supervisor of other staff athletic trainers who work in the same facility. The candidate will supervise and coordinate all operational policies and procedures for one of the sports medicine facilities to ensure compliance with all sports medicine policies and procedures. The incumbent will manage administrative duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance. Will also serve as a preceptor, teaching and mentoring athletic training students in the Athletic Training Education Program. Will take on various other duties at the discretion of the Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance.
Description In consultation with the Sr. Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine and Performance, formulates effective therapeutic treatment plans, implements treatments, and monitors progress. Possesses technical and practical expertise in the appropriate application and supervision of a wide range of rehabilitative exercises/therapy and diagnostic equipment.
Applies evaluative skills and techniques for orthopedic and medical problems associated with intercollegiate athletics as well as participate in the medical clearance and evaluation of incoming and returning student-athletes. Records, analyzes and maintains medical records for daily treatments/Rehabilitation, practice and game limitations, medical services, and referrals. Communicates and interacts with medical professionals, coaches, and administrative staff. Coordinates diagnostic tests. Secures test results and prepares information for Physician Clinics. Gathers information needed for insurance claims; follows up as needed. Serves as a preceptor in the ATEP. Provides supervision of athletic training students during their clinical experience. If the incumbent is credentialed for less than one year, they will supervise and mentor athletic training students under the supervision of an experienced preceptor. Delegates administrative tasks and facility management responsibilities. Other duties as assigned by the Sr. Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine and Performance. Supervision of assigned athletic training staff and fundamental facility management duties of a sports medicine facility to ensure compliance with all sports medicine policies and procedures, assists with budget and human resources for personnel related issues. Plans and organizes schedules and works collaboratively with coaching staff and other performance professionals to ensure adequate risk management.
Qualifications Master's degree and four years of sports medicine experience required. The selected candidate must have Board of Certification (BOC) and have the ability to evaluate medical condition of student-athletes prior to, and during, their participation in intercollegiate athletics.
The Head Athletic Trainer is required to obtain Maryland Licensure and complete a three-stage process, requiring completion of the Licensure Application and finger printing, as well as obtaining an Evaluation and Treatment Protocol prior to performing any Athletic Training duties with student-athletes.
FMS, SFMA, PES, CES, or CSCS credentials or equivalent.
Clinical experience in Athletic Training at the collegiate level.
