The University of Maine Athletics Department is accepting applications for a 9-month (September 2019 – May 2020) paid internship in the UMaine Athletics Communications office. This position will report to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Communications. This internship presents an opportunity for an individual to develop skills in athletic communication and marketing while providing publicity for many of UMaine’s Division I men’s and women’s sports programs.
Responsibilities: Serve as the main contact for women’s ice hockey and one/two other sports while assisting with football, men’s ice hockey and other sports to be determined, write and edit news releases, maintain and update record books and media guides, pitch stories to and manage local and national media, serve as liason between media and coaches/student-athletes, keep statistics, manage social media accounts, edit and maintain content for GoBlackBears.com, assist with in-game promotions, produce social media graphics, assist with coordination and implementation of marketing plans, other duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications or related field
Prior experience in sports information, journalism, media relations or communications office
Knowledge of AP (Associated Press) style
Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office
Able to manage social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
Excellent writing and editing skills
Outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills
Ability to multitask and handle working against a deadline
Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends
Knowledge of Stat Crew Software, especially ice hockey
Experience using Sidearm Sports web platform
Experience as a primary sport contact in athletic communications
