SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for an Operations Manager at John Paul Jones Arena. The Operations Manager is responsible for the daily activities required to run, repair and maintain the facility and to prepare the facility for various events by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
Develop time lines, schedules and action plans for event setup and services in order to maintain smooth operation of events.
Schedules and oversees the changeover of the facility from one event to another; ensures facility is properly set according to performance specifications.
Assists the Director of Operations in directing, supervising and scheduling all aspects of operations, including building and grounds maintenance, housekeeping, set-ups and changeovers, crowd and risk management, fire and life safety.
Interviews, hires and trains the part-time Operations staff; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG's policies and applicable laws.
Works closely with other departments to ensure all building and client needs are met efficiently and within budget.
Responsible for completion of assigned work orders.
Reviews and makes recommendations on modifications to policies and procedures for operations and event staffs.
Anticipates problems and presents appropriate solutions. Investigates, analyzes and resolves operational problems and complaints.
Processes orders and maintains inventory records of operational, housekeeping and event related supplies; maintains expenses within budget guidelines.
Maintains cleanliness, preparedness and organization of all equipment and supplies in all arena storage areas.
Assists with management of service contracts to include housekeeping, landscaping, pest control, refuse removal and recycling.
Maintains compliance with OSHA standards. Responsible for the Master MSDS log in the building.
Works flexible and extended hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.
Serves as Manager on Duty as required.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college, university or technical college.
Minimum of 2 years experience in a similar facility, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated technical knowledge of building maintenance and control functions.
Previous supervisory experience required.
Knowledge in facility capabilities, event related services, operational procedures and technical requirements of events. Must have knowledge of tools, materials, event and housekeeping equipment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required; CAD experience preferred.
Excellent verbal, written, problem solving and interpersonal skills required.
Ability to operate a forklift (certification required) and other industrial equipment related to building management.
Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines. Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedules; demonstrated problem-solving skills.
Ability to form effective working relationships with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons and others encountered in the course of employment.
Ability to perform the physical duties of this job; walk/stand extensively, kneel, climb to high walkways, balance, and maneuver to all areas of the facility; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; work inside and outside the building is required, may have some exposure to adverse conditions; hear and speak using a two-way radio.
