DESCRIPTION The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Design and Digital Strategy. Triton Athletics has a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence and sponsors 23 varsity sports. UC San Diego Athletics is reclassifying to NCAA Division I as a member of the Big West Conference. Triton Athletics placed among the top 10 in the nation in the Learfield Directors' Cup for the third straight year in 2017-18 and has placed among the top 10 in 19 of the last 23 years.
Under general supervision, the Director of Design and Digital Strategy will create, implement, and execute comprehensive graphic and multimedia plans, strategic initiatives and messaging across all 23 sport programs at UC San Diego to maximize interest, drive attendance, create affinity and revenue opportunities and increase campus engagement. The incumbent will be responsible for the visual brand of Athletics across print and digital platforms, including large-format design such as facility graphics. This person will work closely with and support all areas of the external operations team, including marketing, ticketing and communications to enhance revenue streams, tell the unique stories of UC San Diego Athletics, and achieve the goals of the department.
The Director will need to possess an innovative and creative mind to produce digital media and graphic design strategies that work cooperatively with the areas of communication, marketing, video production and game day staff during a transformative time for UC San Diego Athletics. The incumbent will follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms.
Work schedule will include evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be able to travel to out-of-town meetings and athletic competitions.

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects, etc. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Proficiency in utilizing social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc, and strategies to leverage these channels.
Strong supervisory skills. Ability to train, motivate, and evaluate student employees, interns and volunteers; to delegate tasks; to schedule sufficient staffing for simultaneous athletic events based on knowledge of all schedules and the needs for sporting events; Ability to supervise and direct marketing and promotional strategies for designated events and programs sponsored by the University.
Proven ability to analyze market needs and target audience demographics, to develop a range of promotional materials in various media that are appropriate for an athletic program in an academic setting, and that evoke a consistent organizational brand. Ability to analyze the effectiveness of selected materials.
Ability to coordinate effectively with various campus and community constituencies. Thorough written, research, editing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Highly effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
Thorough knowledge of project planning, managing, and budgeting. Ability to create budget forecasting and project wrap-up reports and analysis.

Triton teams have captured 30 national championships while 44 squads have finished as national runners-up and 49 others have achieved national third-place honors. All told, UC San Diego has won 251 national, regional and conference championships. UC San Diego student-athletes have won 138 individual national championships. A remarkable 1,309 Tritons have been named to All-America teams. UC San Diego student-athletes have excelled academically as well, earning 36 prestigious NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships and 78 Academic All-America selections, including a program-high 10 over the 2015-16 campaign. Consistently, over 55 percent of student-athletes earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, placing them on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. In 2016-17, UC San Diego posted a fourth-place finish out of 266 Division II schools in the Learfield Directors' Cup, an award emblematic of the best overall athletics department in the country. Since moving to the NCAA Division II level for the 2000-01 academic year, UCSD has placed in the top seven programs in the country on 12 different occasions and finished second overall twice.
