The successful candidate for Assistant Hockey Coach will coordinate the recruiting efforts of the Women's Ice Hockey program, as well as assist the Head Coach with the day-to-day operations of the program as it relates to the development of game strategy, planning practices, monitoring academic progress, physical training of the student-athletes, and the promotion of the hockey team in the community.
Coordinator of Recruitment - Develop a proposal for a budget to support the recruiting activities of the Women's Ice Hockey program; develop a recruiting plan to effectively recruit qualified student-athletes (SA's) within the confines of the approved budget allocation and within the guidelines set forth by the NCAA ; contact coaches regarding prospective SA's by mail, email and telephone; conduct off-campus evaluations of prospective SA's; conduct in-person contacts with prospective SA's; coordinate unofficial and official visits for prospective SA's; oversee and manage the communication flow to prospective SA's (i.e. weekly telephone calls, email, and direct mailings) including maintaining a database containing pertinent information about prospective SA's; conduct detailed background checks and character references on prospective SA's; make recommendations to the Head Coach as to the most qualified prospective SA's; complete and maintain recruiting records as required by the NCAA.
Coaching Duties - Assist the Head Coach with the development of game strategy as it relates to shorthanded play, power play, defensive zone play, offensive zone play, forecheck, backcheck and face-offs; coaching and development of the defensemen; oversee the video taping of games for home and away games; break down video tape for use in the development of strategy and as a teaching tool for the SA's; implementation and monitoring of strength and conditioning activities; monitoring academic progress of SA's; providing a positive environment conducive to personal growth and development of the student-athletes as each strives for excellence on the ice, in the classroom and in the community.
Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
Experience playing at the collegiate level or experience coaching at the collegiate level.
Experience as a hockey camp instructor.
Must have the ability to conduct business in a professional manner.
Must have strong interpersonal, writing and leadership skills.
Recruiting experience and solid understanding and knowledge of NCAA recruiting regulations.
Experience breaking down game tape preferred.
Must be committed to assisting with the development of the student-athletes as each strives for excellence on the ice, in the classroom and in the community.
