Chief Objective of Position The Manager of Athletics Compliance will report to the Director of Athletics and manage the daily operation of all compliance activities for the department of athletics. The Manager of Athletics Compliance will exercise excellent independent judgment in working with administrators across the university and all head coaches to ensure the NCAA compliance of Christopher Newport University. The Manager of Athletics Compliance must be an effective communicator and successfully navigate multiple priorities at once.
1. Responsible for the certification of initial and continuing eligibility for all student-athletes 2. Responsible for daily updates to student-athlete rosters in Banner and other internal systems 3. Review, interpret and apply NCAA bylaws as requested by the athletics administrative team and athletics staff 4. Approve declared playing and practice seasons and execute game contracts for all sports 5. Develop and execute a plan to provide NCAA rules education and compliance to student-athletes and athletic department staff 6. Review and submit all waiver requests to the appropriate entity (CAC, NJAC and/or NCAA) 7. Responsible for documentation of all transfer requests for the department of athletics 8. Coordinate the preparation and submission of all mandatory NCAA reports and other obligations associated with NCAA membership 9. Compile and advise the athletics administrative team on proposed NCAA legislation 10. Monitor and remain knowledgeable of all current and proposed NCAA rules and legislation. Responsible for communication to leadership on any changes that will have an impact on CNU. 11. Serve as an administrator to support, as assigned, sporting events hosted on our campus or NCAA tournament participation 12. Coordinates the preparation and submission of NCAA tournament financial reconciliations 13. Assist the Director of Athletics with special projects, as assigned 14. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics This position is designated as a “responsible employee” who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) required Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exceptional writing skills along with strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task. Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletics Association rules and regulations. Ability to interpret and apply complex rules and regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) preferred Demonstrated experience of NCAA rules and regulations and knowledge of, or ability to learn Christopher Newport University and Capital Athletic Conference rules and regulations.
Required Education Master’s degree required or Bachelor’s degree in a related field and experience that equates to a graduate degree.
Experience Required Experience working in an intercollegiate athletics department or conference office, or direct related experience pertaining to intercollegiate athletics.
Experience Preferred Experience interpreting and applying relevant NCAA bylaws in an intercollegiate athletics department.
