The Southland Conference, located in suburban north Dallas, and serving 13 member institutions in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Director of Broadcast & Digital Services. The selected applicant, under the direction of the Associate Commissioner for Communications, shall assist in the overall management of Conference communications, primarily focused on broadcast operations, digital and social media, and involvement with other current and emerging technology. More specifically, the selected applicant shall be responsible for the following: Assisting in the development of a visionary, creative and effective communications strategy and integrating Conference promotional and media initiatives across multiple platforms, including the Conference’s television production efforts and its social media outlets; Serving as a liaison to ESPN Networks and other Conference broadcast partners, production companies, other technology providers, and campus video directors to best coordinate television broadcasts, video streaming, web and social media video efforts, and game day stadium/arena productions; Developing digital graphic designs and videos for websites, social media, emails, banner advertising, campus video boards and other projects as directed; Creating in-house video and graphic opportunities, and working with outside creative partners when needed, to enhance the promotion of the Conference and its membership, specifically sports promotion, championship events, and team and individual accomplishments; Assisting with other events such as championships, meetings, sport media days and post-event media conferences; Working collaboratively with Conference staff and institutional athletics personnel; and Performing other duties as assigned by the Commissioner and Associate Commissioner for Communications.
Bachelor’s degree required. A minimum of five years of experience in broadcast operations, communications or marketing at a Division I institution, conference office or professional sports organization is strongly preferred. Knowledge of the communications industry, current and emerging technologies related to sports communications, broadcasting and social media, and excellent written and oral communication skills are required. Applicants should be proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite, and have experience working with digital video editing equipment, production software and photography. Proven artistic/graphic creativity is essential for this position.
