This part-time position is under the direction of the Head Softball Coach. The Assistant Coach will assist the head coach with the coordination, guidance, direction and supervision of a nationally competitive softball program with emphasis on academic and athletic excellence. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to coaching student-athletes, on/off-campus recruiting; assisting with practice and conditioning activities, scouting and recruiting, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, submitting statistics to the TCCAA and NJCAA national office, game management; and professional expectations.
This regular, part-time (62%) position is responsible for assisting the head softball coach with organizing and coaching the softball team and providing academic advising. The Assistant Women’s Softball Coach reports to the Head Softball Coach.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provides instruction as directed by the head softball coach.
Assists with the supervision of practices and games.
Actively encourages academic success and degree completion among student athletes. Assists in monitoring study hall attendance and faculty progress reports for student-athletes participating in the softball program.
Receive and maintain the DSCC Master Advisor certification.
Assists with transport of athletic teams to and from games and tournaments. Maintains a commercial driver license.
Assists with the supervision of team activities
Assists with equipment inventory and maintenance.
Assists with field maintenance and preparation.
Assists in coordinating fund raising activities following state and DSCC policies.
Participate in the annual athletic awards program.
Assists in maintaining program compliance with NJCAA and TCCAA eligibility criteria and reporting as requested by the Head Softball Coach.
Serves as the website content manager for women’s softball.
Restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 50 lbs), walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity is limited. Travel, including overnight travel, will be required to and from games, and for college or program activities.
The assistant coach must have reliable transportation and maintain a commercial driver’s license.
Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution required.
One year experience in a position that requires coaching high school or intercollegiate athletics required.
Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in a high need teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution preferred
